Is it true the Grand Gatherings rooms are assigned prior to regular visitors? I was told this the last time, and was told that we have a good chance of getting our room requests, b/c the grand gathering books have "priority" and are assigned several days before.

Anyone confirm this?

I would love to hear the answer to this as well, we have a GG coming up in January and would love to get our room requests. :)

I have been told that they assign the Grand Gathering rooms first, so as to get them all as close as possible. So if you had 8 rooms, they would find the 8 rooms that were closest together. I would assume if you had requests and they were available and the right amount of rooms were open, you would get them. Also I think they lock them in, so that no one can switch them, so if you check in late, no one earlier can complain about their room and force one of the Grand Gathering rooms out.

I was told by a CM that Handicapped Accessible rooms were assigned first then all others fall behind them, didn't ask about GG. The last few times I have made a reservation it has been tagged as High Priority and was told today that is because my mom has to have a HCA room.

I wish they had child rooms that had the handicap sinks and toilets...etc. My back was killing me after lifting 3 kids up to brush teeth, wash hands and potty all week LOL Next year I'm taking our step we use at home for them, but did think it would be nice if they had young kid rooms or assigned us a handicap room if no one else was in line for it.

i'm going to have to disagree w/safetymom's emphatic yes... we had a GG w/five rooms a few weeks ago at CBR... we were VERY disappointed that not only weren't our rooms together, three rooms were in one building, two of those were next to one another, the third around three corners and down a few walkways, the other two rooms were in a separate building in the same "village" *and* we were unable to get the connecting rooms for dh/me/kids (those were the two that were next to one another)... the only request they honored was my mom's room was on the first floor as were mine/dh's (85yo mom uses a wheelchair) but bro/sil/nieces room in the next bldg were on the 2nd floor... it really made it tough to gather the troops each day... :headache:

We had 5 GG rooms at POFQ in August. We checked in at 9:30 in the morning and did not get any of our room requests. We requested building 1,2 or 5 and the 3rd floor. And that two of the rooms be connecting. We got building 6 second floor, no connecting rooms. We were told that's all that was available if we wanted to keep our rooms together.

We had been planning a GG at AKL for 10 mos and about 25 days out they switched us to GF. Despite that and some hurried research on room requests, we got everything we asked for. :goodvibes

I am not saying this is true of all HC rooms, but the ones we have stayed in didn't have a lower sink, they were all at the height of the regular ones.

The sinks and toilets are at the same height. The handicapped rooms might just have a shower instead of a bath/shower combo so be careful with what you ask for. And a lot of handicapped rooms only have a king bed.

Now, you might want to lobby for something I saw at a local park. A normal drinking fountain with the adult level, the kids level, and one just inches off the ground. For dogs enjoying the park!!:rotfl2:

1) All ressies for a check-in day are downloaded to the resort at the same time.
2) Handicaps usually first shot by the assigner (called "Rooms").
3) Grand Gathering get a priority, but not the next priority.
4) There are others ressies placed before Grand Gatherings.
5) But, GG ressie priority IS NOT for special requests.
6) The priority is to put GG rooms near each other, when possible
7) Any special requests are luck.

NOTE: Not all Grand Gathering rooms even get close to each other. It all depends on how many other rooms are checked-in days prior. If there are not enough rooms available close together, they do the best they can.

NOTE2: Several handicap rooms are also kept unassigned until the last minute, so they are available for later ressies. If they filled HC rooms with non-HC people, they could run out of HC if ressies came in within the next 2-3 days.

Right, but some of them have 2 Queens, or so I have read on the disabilites thread and they always call Special Reservations and find out if they have a room that can accomodate us before they make the actual reservation. My mom has to have a roll in shower and that is what I ask for. I also ask for a room that has never been smoked in, because I am highly allergic to smoke and it can set off an asthma attack quickly. Now the toilet is a little higher than a normal toilet, or it was in the room we were in.

I talked today to the cm in GG and she confirmed that GG rooms are assigned right after handicapped rooms-- and those are for those type of rooms only. The only thing that has more priority than a GG is a single family that requires two rooms-- the party can only have 2 adults traveling with the party, and those are guaranteed connecting rooms, it is a locked reservation. She agreed that while they cannot guarantee our requests we have a pretty good chance of getting what we are asking for. So I guess we will see...

She also said that the person that assigns the rooms gets the GG reservations 2-3 days prior to check-in date, and since we have two travel dates the GG linking will allow then to see the other room with a later check-in date and assign accordingly. So even though they cannot give my room number, they will know it by 12/8 or 12/9, and we are not getting there till 12/11.

1) It was nice she told you this.
2) However, not exactly accurate.
3) It is close, but not exact.
4) Before Grand Gatherings, come
. . . handicapped
. . . certain connecting rooms requests
. . . level 1 VIP's
. . . level 2 VIP's
. . . level 2 VIP's
. . . vice-president guests
. . . marketing dept guests
. . . purchasing dept guests
. . . travel agents, not considered as VIP
. . . others

5) You still have a good chance of being together.
6) In some cases, a good chance at get other requests

If everyone in our Grand Gathering paid for a Preferred room, does that give us more priority for close rooms?

Only if there are enough preferred rooms near each other when the rooms are assigned. If you need, lets say 6 preferred rooms, if at the time the rooms are assigned only 3 are available on one floor and the others are spread out on other floors the assigner can not move other (all ready checked in) guests to put you all together so they would have to split you up.

Correctomondo.

See my earilier post. Because of the need for 1st floor rooms they most likely were not able to give you all rooms together. If on your check in day only one or two first floor rooms were available and they were the only rooms in that building then there is nothing they could have done to put you together. First floor for health reasons is a surprisingly common request and would be honored before GG.
