Grand Floridian

I know the snake thing is the problem, but I wanted to share my 1st floor experience at the Poly with you. We also had requested an upper floor with a balcony thinking it would be a nice view, but upon arrival we were given a first floor. Oh well. Oh my goodness!!! Best issue ever! WE stayed in Tokelau, which is now DVC< but that patio was awesome. The grounds at teh Poly are so plush that even when there are people on the sidewalks, you are sheltered from them. That patio was so much more spacious than a balcony and added a lot more room for us. If you can somehow get past the snake problem, and I totally get that!!!!, and end up with a patio, you may find it the best non granted request ever!
I know it's in my head but I have assured my poor husband that if we get a ground floor that I will "man up" and just deal with it. We will be staying GV CL so I know we will be in the Hawaii building. The grounds are so pretty and that's the main reason we decided to try the Poly since we ended up strolling over here a couple of times when we stayed at the GF last year. I will be in Disney and not the cold Northeast so what's not to love!

We had a snake in our ground floor room at BC. He was in the bathroom. Put a wastebasket over him and called maintenance. They took forever to come! Guy said it was a harmless snake, but still. After that, my one son always requests 'no ground floor!'
Thanks for this! Now I can show my husband that I'm not totally crazy! I wouldn't have to call maintenance my husband would easily remove it from the room the whole time shaking his head at his chicken wife who would have already run far ,far away! That's part of the problem as well, how do I know if it's harmless or not? It would be next to impossible to talk my husband into leaving it alone and waiting for someone to come and remove it.

We have lagoon view booked and only requested no first floor.
We got first floor.
How bad is the view from the first floor?
It is early, so I am hoping to request a change.
Thoughts?

Only request was not first floor.
I am not upset at all, just trying to ponder if having a room ready is more important to us than higher floor.
I was looking for thoughts on first floor rooms.

I talked to the front desk. We can get 4th floor from in Boca Chica but it is not ready yet.
I just think a higher floor with lagoon view would be nice.

I went with higher floor but I thought about keeping first floor to just have our room now.
I hope I made a good choice.
So far, everyone has been very pleasant.
We are getting ready to eat breakfast at 1900 PF.

This is similar to another post and I never saw it clarified. I am pretty sure online check in request do not say "not first floor" so am I correct that you made this request in a phone call or in the "special" notation box (which is for things like birthdays, honeymoons etc)?

I was an anti-online check in when it began because I was afraid I wouldn't get my requests. I called for years and always had it noted. Not long after online checkin was in full mode I began showing up to opposite of what I wanted and most times they refused to move me saying they were too full. So now I had nothing to lose by doing online checking their boxes. Since I started that, I have always gotten the items I requested online. Often the two choices can help box in a location. I've been waiting for the day Disney looks at the online check in requests only for a number of reasons. Looking at that, and notes and faxes ... too much. Another poster had more than one request that could not be met because they were not compatible, in the end they were given only their room category, none of their requests, and went through the move process.

I am wondering if what seems like an increase in complaints of not getting requests is because they are focusing on the online requests, which makes efficiency sense.

I'm trying to be really brave about our upcoming trip to the Poly CL in Jan. I requested third floor and know that is only a request but I am really nervous about getting a ground floor. I HATE snakes and have it stuck in my mind that a snake is going to get into my room on a ground floor! I know it wont happen (or at least is about as likely as me winning the lottery) but it's in my head and it just plays around in there. I'm a farm girl for gosh sakes but really hoping to stay far away from the ground floor rooms:)

FYI - snakes have no problem climbing up buildings so upper floor is no guarantee. It's why they say in FL do not open your windows without screens - unwanted visitors. Keep all doors and windows completely shut - on ALL floors unless you are watching.

You requested first floor! But you're going to request a change? When they gave you exactly what you asked for?!

This is why they're going to kill off requests entirely eventually!
That's the danger of saying "no first floor". All they see is "first floor". Should have been worded "upper floor" or "higher floor".

Exactly. The assignors are very busy, and it goes to addressing the word that stands out. It's like when you say to a kid "don't run" ... all they hear is run and permission to do so. It is better to say "walk" just like it is better to say upper floor. Don't tell them what you don't want, tell they what you do want.

Aside from the view/patio factor, the other concern about first floor room is foot traffic outside your room in the hallway. If taking a first floor room, I'd be more concerned that it wasn't in a main corridor. We just returned from Aulani and there are first floor rooms on the main floor from the lobby, between the gift shop and elevator bank. It was never NOT busy. We commented several times that those rooms must have sucked for noise!

The part I like about first floor rooms is that you don't have to deal with the elevators. Easy in and out!

Couldn't agree more. We had first floor at the Poly in Fiji, facing the marina. The patio was awesome. We had requested 3rd floor but were very happy with the patio.

Yes indeed! My son had arrived first so he checked us in. He had to choose to give up one upgrade to CL, we had two rooms, and wanted connecting rooms over balcony, and we think he did great!

We usually don't like first floor either but there was a snafu at AKL when we stayed there and we asked to move to the Poly. We were given a first floor room in the longhouse that starts with an "A" - cant say it or spell it! HA! It was one of our favorite rooms ever!

We prefer first floor rooms. No waiting for elevators. No climbing stairs. Quick in and out. Our favorite stays so far have been in a 1st floor room facing the inside of the C at BLT and a first floor room last month at Poly Tokelau.

I have an awful snake phobia. I also love 1st floor rooms. I am happy to say I have never seen a snake at DW in all my trips. I also have to say I don't go looking for them either. Not gonna check out the bushes - no way! The posts like previous that found a snake in their room I try to not think about. I would be permanently traumatized if that were to happen to me. My screams would wake the dead and all would hear because I would be screaming and running full speed to the front desk.

We had the second door from the entrance. My son hopped the patio once or twice to make his walk to CC even quicker.

I am the OP.
We are very happy with our room on the third floor.
