Is turn down service provided to everyone at the GF or do you have to request it?

Also, how much would you tip for turn down service at the GF? Thanks for your help.

It's automatic to concierge guests, on a request basis (but complimentary) to other rooms...and I leave $2 per evening fr turn-down service.

We had turndown service each night last summer and we were not concierge (& we did not request it)...I thought everyone at the GF had that service? DD loved finding those chocolates on her bed each night :).

We also received turndown service at the GF this past Feb. and did not stay conceirge or request it;)

When we stayed at the Contemporary we received it first night without requesting it but not after. When DH inquired why we did not get it we were told you had to request it.

I don't think they know the rules. Maybe it depends on your housekeeper. If they are looking for a good tip you don't need to ask (and maybe even get towel animals).

We stayed 2 times at GF and each time got nightly turndown in a regular room without requesting it. The last time was fall of 1999. They left chocolates and a poem, and filled the ice bucket along with turning down the beds. I never thought to leave a separate tip, most days we did not return to the room until evening and they had already been there.

We stayed there last summer in a standard (non view room) and had turn down service each night. We did not request it - they came every night. They were great and gave us ice, towels, and left chocolates (which I had to hide from my 2 year old until the next day!) One time we were all getting ready to go out so they did not come in but just handed us some chocolates and asked if we needed more towels or anything. I found their housekeeping service to be on par for what I would expect from a deluxe hotel.
I do not tip for each night's turn down - if they had done something extraordinary that we had asked for I would have. I think that if a hotel includes a turndown service that I should not tip for that, if I request it - or ask them to do something "extra" then I would. I usually tip housekeeping at the end of my stay.

Hmmm...when we stayed there we got it the first night. THen didn't get it the second night. When I called housekeeping they told me you only get it if you request it unless you're in a concierge room.

Maybe things have changed? That was in January of 2002.

At the GF, you do get turndown service every night, in standard rooms as well as concierge.
(of course, nothing is perfect so possibly one or two nights, you may be in you room when they come by, so you get skipped)

All other deluxe resorts give turndown service nightly to concierge guests.
Standard room guests can get turndown service if they request it.

We tip $2 per night for turndown

Anne, we did get it every night in January 2002, as well as in July 2002. :) I remember getting it in the past as well. ;) Maybe they just skipped you one night, and tried to cover up the mistake?
