Grand Floridian still my favorite!!!

Hi all - My extended family and I (DH, DD age 4, my parents, DH's parents) just returned from 8 days at the GF (another 8 days would've been even better!) and it was another wonderful vacation! As on last year's stay at the GF, everything and everyone was absolutely fantastic! Our parents fell in love with the GF, as we had hoped they would, and were enchanted the entire time we were there. To make our stay even more magical, here's what happened at check-in: we arrived at about 10:45 a.m. and began the process, at which time DH asked the CM if we were able to have all our requests met (Conch Key again, all 3 rooms as close together as possible, 5th floor dormer rooms, standard view). Well, we got Conch Key, but the rooms were not together, and 2 were on the 2nd floor while the other was on the first floor (I really prefer a higher floor because of the view it affords). DH asked if it was possible to check and see if we could have all 3 rooms on the same floor at least, and after happily making a few calls, the CM was able to get us all 3 rooms on the 2nd floor. Imagine our surprise when we entered our rooms to find that they were on the lagoon side - a free upgrade for all 3 rooms! I never expected anything like that to happen, and it was really lovely.

I know quite a few people here have posted about problems at the GF, but we honestly had not a single complaint the entire time. Everyone we encountered was pleasant and helpful, just like last year. The atmosphere was cheerful and fun and the lobby was full of happy families, just like last year. It was another Grand vacation!

Phyllis1966, what a wonderful vacation you had. I love Conch Key -- it's my favorite GF building. Do you have any photos to share with us?

Janet2K, I have lots of photos (not yet developed), but I was under the impression that you need to have a digital camera to post photos(?). I have have the old fashioned 35mm kind ! I love to see photos on the DIS; I wish I could post mine, too.

It is wonderful to hear a good review of the GF. I am staying at the GF for the first time in early December and I hope our stay is as magical as yours !!!!

I just got back from my stay there and it is my favorite too!!! It was my first time staying there and I fell in love with it. I don't know how I am ever going to be able to stay anywhere else. It was my dream to be there and if you read my post about it and POR I got engaged on this trip. Everything about the resort was perfect except for the night my fiance got sick but that can happen anywhere and has not changed my opinion of the resort. Our room was so awesome, the lagoon view was awesome and the resort was sooo beautiful. I also love to have tea there although we missed it this trip we will be back for tea next weekend. 1900 Park Faire was great also!! The pools are wonderful, the beach is wonderful and the view is awesome. I couldn't imagine a better place to stay. I just love the style of the Grand Floridian and can't wait to stay there again. I love the Grand Floridian!!!!

You will love the GF! I've now visited quite a few of the deluxes, and I am just so in love with the GF - even DH says he can't imagine staying anywhere else! The Christmas decorations are beautiful - it's a wonderful time to be there! Some people feel it's stuffy, but not us. There were mostly families with kids milling around and enjoying themselves - we saw lots of extended families (like ours) with grandparents having such fun with their grandkids. It's just a grand place to be while in WDW! My daughter loved Grand Adventures in Cooking - she decorated a chefs hat (paper), painted a cloth apron, sang songs while the paint dried, baked and decorated cookies, then came out to the lobby to hand the treats (about 50 - 60 gingerbread teddy bears) to the guests at the GF, who all made a fuss and thanked the "chefs" profusely! I hope the photos are good!

What a magical place to get engaged - congratulations! I'm glad to hear you had a great time, too! Sorry about your fiance, but I'm glad you guys made the best of it. I'll be a lifelong fan of the GF!

The place where you get your photos developed at may be able to do a CD with the pictures on it digitally. Usually it'll be on the developing envelope (a box for it).
