Grand Floridian shouldn’t allow non hotel guests

You didn’t pay for exclusive use of transportation or public areas. You paid for a room & certain recreation areas during your stay. People have a right to go to GF or any WDW hotel because WDW management advertises & invites them to.

This is true for any resort. Only registered guests of that resort are allowed to use the pools at that resort. And the nightly rate of any resort entitle you to use all WDW transportation.

I don’t think that’s the reason they have them at other resorts. We’ve been going tomWDW since 1992 & they’ve had gingerbread displays at other deluxes as long as I can remember. They have added the gingerbread & treat sales at other resorts recently. I think it’s more likely they did that because they’re making a good amount of money from the sales at GF, so why not make money at the other resorts too.

Wow, no one has a right to go anywhere on private property unless the property owner allows it. Disney could wake up Tuesday and 100% block access to gf if they wanted

Going to gf isn’t some predestined inherent birthright bestowed upon us by the mouse. I 100% am however advocating for the mouse to shutdown access to adr and resort guests only

If not on a permanent basis certainly during peak periods

To say they can’t do this I just have to point you to poly during 4th of July. They 100% block access to the beach on occasion

My response was reflective of the current situation at GF. If management changes that on Tuesday, my response won’t apply. But today, Monday, it does. After over 30 years vacationing at WDW, I’m well aware that things can change at any time.

Being a random owner doesn’t give someone a predestined right to ban others from transportation or any other place that is allowed by WDW management.

If you don’t like the situation, make your feelings known at your annual meeting.

Seems to me that the issue is really more about the impact on transportation to get to the parks and back on the guests that are there.

Maybe they need to consider larger boats and run dedicated buses to MK and Epcot during the holidays because of the monorail crowds.

I think this thread has shown there is clearly a very big problem

I hate Disney buses. Most unreliable transit on the planet. Another reason why I love monorail resorts is a train is much more consistent than a bus

Unless we still boot non paying guests to the bus this doesn’t solve the problem for me. Feels like guests are being punished

I could see this becoming a nightmare

Punter walks to monorail, line is out the door. Punter walks to bus wasting time, line is out the station. Now what do they do other than walking back and forth or hanging tight

If bus and monorail were right next to each yeah sure this could work but you can’t see one from the other so very much feels like a punishment

I guess I don’t see it that way. But as mentioned, until Disney chooses to move the Gingerbread house someone else, the holidays at GF will be hustle and bustle…and it may not be the ideal choice for some guests.

This was my thought. Again, even better if resort guests/ADRs can take monorail or boat, and resort visitors can take the bus. I say this because generally, monorail resorts are priced higher on the basis that they have more exciting and convenient transportion options to Magic Kingdom.

But even if they couldn't be bother to do a system like that (time and $$ Disney doesn't want to spend) adding buses is a pretty easy solution to prevent overcrowding. Especially since it seems to be pretty formulaic: people leaving MK early on party days like to finish their evening off with a visit to the nearby resorts to see the decorations. Just add buses on party days from 5 - 9 p.m.!

The goal isn't to be elitist or mean--its so everyone can have a slightly better experience.

I feel the same staying at the Polynesian anytime. I love it and bought there because I love it so much. But recently we have found ourselves booking elsewhere because of the chaos. The lobby is always insane and we can’t even watch fireworks from the beach because of all the people. I’m not paying all those points to stay there for chaos. That is why we bought DVC to stay deluxe and avoid the chaos of the values. So I get that it’s unavoidable so decided AKL is more my speed. Just wish I would have figured it out before we bought there
We stayed at the Poly this past spring and felt the same. Most of our prior trips were at WL which is quite calm in comparison.

I just do not see Disney spending the money and manpower to micromanage which guests use which transportation when they, at this time, have the Gingerbread House as a feature for visitors.

But, adding buses for MK and Epcot…that they currently don’t have would at least help guests have another option beyond what is currently there.

Larger boats would help as well…I know it is frustrating for some guests during the holidays so I do agree that Disney should add more transportation to help.

I think expanded bus service and boat service would relieve 80%+ of people’s issues.

What would be really awesome is if Disney added info in the app regarding transit wait times and capacity loads per vehicle. Would make it easier to pick bus, train or boat before getting to the station

There are vendors who offer that functionality

There are two mono rail lines. Express to mk and the resort line

There are also multiple boat routes. Express to mk and resort boats

Place magic band readers at resort boats and mono rail lines. Unless you are staying at the resort you can’t get on the train and or boat

100% legal as you are not telling people you can’t ride. Just where you can go
Likely NOT a legal option as the WDW Transportaton System is a Public Transportation System according to the State of Florida, and park passes of all kinds entitle people to use the WDW Transportation System, in addition to resort guests. Disney no longer has the ability to unilaterally reclassify it as a ride or private transport system, the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District along with the State would need to approve it.

So the legal requirement for public transit is equitable access. The ultimate destination of the monorail is mk and Epcot.

That access is provided with direct express rail to both locations.

Equal Access would INCLUDE the monorail resort stops. It is not equitable access if the public is forbidden access to those stations, as the resorts, open to the public, are ALSO final destinations for guests wanting to dine, see the resort lobbies, etc.

Just because there is a second line, doesn’t change that the resort line is now considered a public transportation option, which means, they can not limit who rides it, without, as Chuck said, going through the process to have it changed.

Again, what Disney should be doing is adding more options for resort guests during the holiday season to compensate for the additional guests using what is there.

And I think that is a fair request by guests who are unhappy with the crowds if they choose to stay there during the holidays.

Someone just brought up in the DVC Fan livestream that Disney is planning to use the 120 person boats for Poly and GF (most likely to accommodate the tower addition) vs the normal 38 passenger ones to/from MK. That's one step in the right direction.. Yay! I'm hoping for more updates soon.

Yes and no

The train may be public but the hotel isn’t. It’s private property. So sure you could argue they could ride the gf. But going inside not required under law

If these interpretations are accurate and applicable, then any DVC owner should be concerned about the general safety at any of the monorail-attached resorts, given you're saying that anyone in the world has the right to access the monorail and exit at any of the stations on the line.

I've stayed out of the back and forth on the great gingerbread house debate, but do we think unfettered access to resorts is a good idea?
