Grand Floridian Purchases

Uh-oh:bitelip:
I haven't had it in a long long time.....:scared1:

Yup! You know it.....it's ADDONITIS! :rolleyes1:rolleyes1

I haven't been interested in any of the newer resorts, but VGF, this one, this one's got me! OH boy OH boy, I guess I should start playing the lottery! :lmao:

Thanks for the detailed response. I suppose we don't need that many more points, to be able to stay an entire week in a larger room, with only VGF points. I guess I will be one of the people at 7 months out, vying for a room.

Good luck. :)

It's Official! I am the proud owner of 90 points at Villas Grand Floridian! :cool1::cool1: I have the same use year, September and so excited! Since my guide is based in California she couldn't talk to me about it she put me in contact with an awesome guide in Florida.

:cheer2::wave2: Welcome home neighbor :wave2:

I know right!!!

We have not had addonitis for a long time either. But alas the add on bug has bitten again.

I'm thinking 75 points. I must start masterminding a plan!pirate:pirate:

We just bought 70 points today. :cheer2: We were not really looking for more right now but saw the presentation on the Wonder when VGF opened up and thought we should get in at that price. Can't wait to see it.

I hope someone here can help me before I go back to my assigned "Guide" (Not my original guide, she was transferred to CA). We have a February use year and are considering a Grand Floridian purchase. We understand that a Feb. use year would result in zero 2013 points so I inquired about getting an April use year for the new points. I understand the potential headaches of having two use years (need for transfers, limited to one per year if you need to combine points for a reservation) but am still interested because our current contract (resale) is at Hilton Head and my intent is to use HH points for HH and GFV for GFV. However, the guide told me he cannot sell me a different use year because they made a universal decision not to do so for GFV because they get too many complaints when people realize the administrative headaches involved. He said he cannot sell me a different use year even if I wait and pay an extra $5 per point after they are available to the public. Can anyone confirm whether this is true or not. I know this guide gave me some other information that turned out to be incorrect so I thought I could reach out to the knowledgeable people on disboards before pushing back on this (if it is not correct). Thanks for your help.

In the past, they have allowed existing members to get a different use year if they purchase at least the minimum number of points for a new contract. I'm not sure what the minimum is for VGF - but maybe someone else knows. You should be able to do that on June 19, when the resort goes on sale to the general public.

Also, you can get 2013 points even though you have a February use year if you decide to buy a fixed week if the week begins after the resort opens and before 1/31/2014. Of course that only works if you want to buy a fixed week and are willing to pay what that costs.

Other people have reported that Disney will only sell add-ons to existing members between now and June 19. For it to be an add-on, it has to be the same UY. To buy a new UY (and hence, a different membership number), you'll likely have to wait until the public sale later this month.

This is exact reason we have not pursued a contract at VGF. No way will I spend that kind of $ on points that we can't "get" for 8 months.

Ditto. I know it all balances out at the end of the contract, but I'll be 100 and I won't care. If I'm going to spend $145 a point, I'm not going to start out a contract in borrowing mode.

Thanks to all of you for your quick replies. I checked into the fixed week earlier but decided against that because we do not want that many points. I think the lack of 2013 points could become a deal breaker for us as well. It IS hard to pay $145 per point and have to borrow because we have an inconvenient use year. We only paid $42 per point (in late 2011) for our current 150 point HH contract. So far we have just used it for HH. We prefer one bedrooms and plan to go in late August 2014 for our next trip to WDW so maybe we can luck out with a few days at GFV at 7 months (borrowing from 2015, of course).

Officially also purchased 90 points at VGF! so excited that I can now see that when I log in to DVC MS website! :)
but won't be going there in the next year or so, so look out for my post on rental board (to be made shortly as soon as the contract actually closes) if you're interested ;)

I can also confirm that there is no additional incentive on the cruise for VGF. It seems like the good old days of $$$ incentives on DCL are gone :confused3

Can also confirm no discount on cruise for GFV - same offer as other members are getting - $145 until June 19. Also, we were told same thing about different UY - no option to add different UY, even if you buy 160 points and even if you buy after June 18th at the non-member price (i.e. no such thing as adding another "Contract" with a different UY). However, with prices rising as they have, we will probably get in at $145 before the price increase. I would be surprised if they offer any discounts because the price is already lower than many were guessing. There were discounts on the cruise for Alauni and AKV, but not sure how that compares to current offers at those resorts (from $5 a point to $12 or $14 a point discount depending on points purchased, plus $1,000 stateroom credit).

I was told by my guide that the $145 per point was the incentive! Lol, then it goes up on June 19 but it is still cheaper than BLT!

Your guide is mistaken, ask for a new guide, or send me a PM and I will send you our guides name. We just purchased an April UY and our current UY was December.
