Grand Floridian - completely restricted theme park view

It was the same lady who checked us in. At the concierge desks in the villas lobby.

I’m in WDW for another 2 weeks (in other hotels) is it worth speaking to someone whilst I’m here?
I wouldn't waste any more time on your honeymoon dealing with it. Enjoy your 2 weeks and then if you still feel it is worth escalating you can email Member Satisfaction at dvcmembersatisfactionteam@disneyvacationclub.com

Sounds like Disney is once again trying to push that envelope as far as they can. Nothing new. But with DVC, it seems like it could be illegal to label a room something it's not and charge more for it?

If they could do this, what's keeping them from having rooms at SSR or OKW designated at theme park views?

I assume it was actually 9347. There are 4 rooms in Big Pine Key which are on the theme park side of the building, but largely obstructed by a tree. I'm not entirely clear on how bad the view is from all 4. Touring Plans has a photo supposedly from 9147 which isn't bad.

Regardless, I'm surprised this hasn't been a bigger topic of discussion in the 15 months BPK has been open. In the photo below, the rooms are on the far left behind the tree. This side of the building has 7 rooms across and here you can only see 6 of them.

It is not a great "view" for rooms which are priced at a premium.

Why in the heck did they put or keep that tree there? Easy to just remove it and plant another tree out of the sightline. OP should include this photo with her photo when messaging DVC. (and congrats on the wedding and happy honeymoon)

Of course you could’ve been booked in on 9/26 - 9/28 (like we will be), and have your view and balcony access blocked by the just announced power washing…. 🙄

Glad you were able to get it worked out. Congratulations on the nuptials! 🎉

I would imagine they treated most people who complained better. Some G+ or some vouchers for the gift shop would have gone a long way. That's right, I read Creating Magic too. Instead they got rude treatment, and were told view categories mean nothing.

This demonstrates a lack of training. On the hotel side a view is a request. That CM was obviously not aware that for DVC it’s a bookable category.
I agree about the lack of training. OP checked in at the DVC building - there are no theme park view villas in that building & many people use the main lobby check in for BPK stays, so that CM may not be familiar w/ the nuances of the views at the new building. Should she be - yes, but if the villa is classified as theme park view there’s not much she can do especially since DVC operates at nearly 100% occupancy, the ‘better’ VGF theme park view resort studios were likely already occupied & thus the CM had no where in Big Pine Key to move OP to. Alternately the CM may have been very familiar w/ the complaints about the 9*47 villas - see this thread from a year ago https://www.disboards.com/threads/g...g-pine-resort-studio-theme-park-view.3890028/ - and know from experience that management wouldn’t authorize anything likely to satisfy OP. Not many GF cash rooms are theme park view & the main lobby rooms are being refurbed, so there may not have been many places to move OP to which may be why it took 2 hours to get authorization & to find a room OP liked better. There may have been a misunderstanding as well - from the CM’s perspective on paper OP was in a theme park view villa, which floor & which end of that floor would be location requests which are just requests. Nevertheless, they do need to cut down the tree or reclassify those 9*47 villas IMO.

Wow, that thread is over a year ago, surprised to see there aren't more complaints, especially with how much this room costs.

I guessing they correct it better when people complain, most of the time.

Or maybe they just shut it down and ignore you, like they did with my awful VGF2 experience.
