I checked in today to my grand Floridian villas theme park view room

And it was 100% reatricted

Could not see ANY of the theme park.

We are only staying for 2 nights and it’s our honeymoon, so I was understandably upset when we received this room.

We did eventually get moved to a standard (non DVC) room with a good view.
However now we don’t get the DVC amenities!

But when I went to concierge to request the move they told me that no view is guaranteed. Where does it state this? Surely if I paid the points for a theme park view, I should at least get to see some of the theme park.

The room was 9347, and the entire view was blocked by a tree (I do have a photo but not sure how to upload using a mobile)

Thanks

VGF theme park studio was a one and done for us. Too many points for what we received.

I’m sorry this happened on your honeymoon! “No view is guaranteed” probably wasn’t on your bingo card 🤣

I hope you replied “yeah, neither is my commitment to vacation here.” Such a stupid issue that comes up all the time 🤦‍♂️

It was horrendous! They really acted like they didn’t care as well.

And it took for the supervisor to come out to offer me a room change. The First Lady who said “no view is guarenteed” said I couldn’t move.

That's unacceptable. Those rooms are a lot of points, and if you can't see the theme park the room needs to be reclassified. I would take it up with DVC. Obviously the person who said no view is guaranteed was completely confused on this one, because if you book a certain view, that's what you should get.

Yes I booked Resort Studio - Theme Park View

How can they say “no view is guarenteed” when that’s exactly what I booked?
You are guaranteed a room that has been designated a theme park view room. Based on DVD's repeated history with new resorts, that apparently does not mean you are guaranteed to actually have a good view from such a room. I have seen other complaints such as yours before for the new VGF theme park view rooms. It appears that the new VGF building may have the same problem that existed for other resorts that DVD created with higher point cost view rooms that probably should not be so classified.

At BLT, after it opened, there were a number of rooms designated as Magic Kingdom view (now called theme park view) that were just above standard view rooms, and their only real view was of a large parking lot and a monorail track. Complaints were made by many stuck in such rooms and DVC eventually reclassified a number of those rooms as standard view, but without lowering the total points it could sell -- it shifted points applicable to those rooms to lake view rooms.

The same happened with AKV savanna view rooms and DVC eventually reclassified a number of them as standard view, both at Jambo and Kidani, but again without changing the total number of points it could sell, but instead raising the points needed for savanna view rooms.

At BWV, a few pool/garden view rooms were eventually reclassified as standard view because their "pool" view consisted only of staring at the back wall of the clown pool staircase for the slide, i.e., they actually had worse views than any standard view rooms. The points in that case were shifted to rooms in the highest season.

Based on the above history of other resorts, the best thing members can do is complain constantly to DVC about any theme park view rooms at the new VGF building that have a lousy "theme park" view and, eventually, DVD may correct the problem. An email you can use to make such complaints is dvcmembersatisfactionteam@disneyvacationclub.com

I hate hearing these stories, but can't say I am surprised. Lots of precedent for this, all the back to Kidani. DVC will push this until it costs them money, like it did having to move you into something that actually matches what you booked.

I'd love to see the MOST EXPENSIVE view in WDW DVC.

Wow, the response that "no view is guaranteed" is simply unacceptable. As you stated, you literally booked and paid the points for a theme park view room. So while it's inevitable that some views might be superior to others, you should at least be able to see the park (and not by peering through a tree).

I would send an email to DVC voicing a complaint. You might not get any compensation, but hopefully if they get enough complaints that room can be reclassified down the road.

So sorry this happened on you honeymoon off all times!

They really need to spend few minutes once every so often going into the rooms one by one and asking themselves if the view designation is reasonable. This may change over time, because trees grow. The general manager definitely has the ability to refund points when appropriate, which I think is certainly true in this case.

I agree with @Pens Fan. I'd write to complain that they said they do not plan on following the requirements of your booking categories which THEY set to charge more.

I would ask for a refund of the extra points, honestly. This shouldn't matter, as you didn't book a view category, right? This should be a substantial amount of points.

It's true, technically, that the view is not "guaranteed." If the building has a plumbing leak or burns down, they are going to move you AKL or whatever. But, with no extenuating circumstances, assigning you a room that doesn't have the view advertised and paid for is deceptive. I would say that you consider this misleading and wouldn't have spent this many points, if you knew that the view would not be honored.

Sorry, I have to ask.

If it is your honeymoon, will you really be looking out the windows?

I would enjoy your time there, and ask to speak with a manager but don't let it delay your plans...

After your trip reach out to Guest Services / Guest Relations I can get you the email if you need it.
