Grand Floridian Cafe or Kona?

Staying at WL in August and would like to try restaurants in the resorts close by. We've never eaten at the GFC. Was wondering how it is? We ate at Kona several years ago and enjoyed it. But, I'm seeing mixed reviews lately. Your thoughts?

We were shocked at what a fantastic meal we had at the GFC...you do not hear much about this place and it was the only thing available on a very rainy night so we grabbed it...what a delish steak and shrimp pasta dish we had. Make sure you get the dessert sampler, it was sinfully wonderful!

I do not like Kona dinner at all, for breakfast and lunch it is excellent but not dinner

We too had a great meal at GFC, but we also had an equally good meal at Kona (although I must admit...I do prefer breakfast at Kona). In my opinion you won't have a bad meal at either place. ;)

We also love the GFC meals. We eat here many times a year. We use to eat at Kona's but have since retired it off our list when they took the filet off the menu.

A friend of mine nd his family are down there now, he told me the one thing on there must do list is to eat at GFC so I am going to do that when I go for Christmas :santa: :thumbsup2

Grand Floridian Cafe is wonderful! We've eaten both breakfast and dinner here and have not been disappointed. I think people overlook this little nugget because it doesn't sound very fancy...it has the word cafe in it's title! We prefer it to Kona but Kona is delicious too. If I had to pick, I'd go with Grand Floridian Cafe. The strip steak, french onion soup and dessert sampler is to die for! I'd save Kona for breakfast, it's really good there!:goodvibes

We have eaten at both. If I had to pick, I would go with Kona. I had some kind of steak at GFC. It was good but not fab! I had steak at Kona and it WAS fab! Another time I had the shrimp and scallops and it was also FAB!!!! I must say that, in my opinion, the service and theming are really not great at either, but the food was better a lot of other restaurants in "the world"! My vote is Kona! It was a BIG surprise to us, and again, just my opinion, but I think it's a great "find"! We ate there the first time, because we were back at the hotel early and asked to get in and we could. We canceled another ressie somewhere else to go back a second time because we liked it so much!!

On our most recent trip, we ate at Kona once for breakfast and once for dinner, and the Grand Floridian Café for lunch. I wouldn't hesitate to return to either. At this point, I'd probably choose the Grand Floridian Café again just because there was so much on the menu that piqued my interest. It might take several visits to taste it all. On the other hand, Kona's dinner appetizers and sushi speak to me more than the entrées do.

We've eat at both for dinner & GFC for lunch too. GFC was better at lunch but that might have been the meals we got and our server was a lot better, the one at dinner ignored us and was so slow and just bad. The pasta dish at GF was very good.

GFC is wonderful! My mother is diabetic and they were really helpful with her dinner. We ate there several times when we stayed at the Grand Floridian. I just told my family we should go there again! Yummy!

We had dinner at both places in December. We prefer GFC. Our service was excellent and it's a lot quieter than Kona. Both are good though we did have a bad meal at Kona in 2008.

Have only had breakfast at Kona and liked it a lot. Have had breakfast and lunch at the GFC and liked both a lot. GFC is more traditional fare vs. the slightly ethnic options at Kona. Will gladly go back to both for breakfast, though the maple vanilla french toast at GFC is out of this world good.

We ate at both last January and enjoyed them equally. We did breakfast and dinner at Kona and breakfast at the GFC. I would love to try GFC for dinner as there are many different yummy menu options.

Thank you for all your replies!! I'm still having a tough time deciding. What I'm thinking is to go to one for lunch and the other for dinner. Thanks again everyone!:)

We love Kona for dinner. It was a hidden gem we discovered in June, thanks to these boards. We haven't ever been to GFC.
