I originally booked a regular Grand Floridian garden view room, but realized I will need a room with grab bars in the bathroom for a guest to get up and down by the toilet and to assist getting in and out of the shower. I recently stayed in a regular room at the Polynesian and it had no grab bars in the bathroom. Concerned, I looked to modify my reservation.
I spoke with a typical reservation CM on the phone and she insisted that I needed a wheelchair shower room that would require me upgrading to club level based on what was open. Thinking this may not be 100% accurate, I called a different number looking for the Grand Floridian directly, and was put in contact with handicap special requests. This CM assured me the “Outer Bldg-Garden View. Florida special accessible room with option for hearing accessibility. 2 queen beds, 1 daybed” would have what I needed and the CM updated my reservation.
Looking under the reservation website, I see that specific room type I was put into, and it does not appear the image of the shower has a grab bar. However, the traditional garden view room I originally had appears that it does have a grab bar based on the online photo.
I was wondering if anyone had any experience with Grand Floridian rooms (regular or accessible) and if they had bathroom grab bars. I find it strange that a Grand Floridian standard room would have them when the Polynesian did not.
