Hi,

We were on the 9/13 magic. First time, so we didn't book any excursions in Grand Cayman.

When you get off the tender...there is a taxi dispatch stand. You can take a 2 hour tour of the island. They take you to hell, the turtle farm, the first gingerbread house, the mayors mansion and around some of the nicer neighborhoods, then they drop you back off downtown..which is near the dock to do some shopping.
The taxi driver also offered to drop anyone who wanted at the beach...no one in our tour group was interested.

We checked out some of the stores, then decided to visit with the locals instead. We saw some brew pubs on the way back in the taxi..so we went for a walk...ocean side...not to far up the road. We went to Rackams first...they have a great gift shop, a wonderful menu and they sell stingray beer...brewed on the island.

Then we walked toward the dock...to Big Bamboo. Again...great food...a smaller/lighter menu than Rackhams...so next time our full meal will be at Rackams. Still delicious..they grill food fresh for you, right there on the deck, overlooking the ocean. They have 5 micro-brews to try. All very good.

It was a great day...we had a blast. The people we met at the pubs were wonderful.

Enjoy!

We also did the island tour with local taxi drivers..it was $15.00 per person and we were in an air conditioned van with local flavor..it was cheaper than the Disney tour.

We went for lunch at Breezes right across from the pier..excellent food and reasonable prices. Great homemade potato chips!!

The DCL excursion Rum Pointe Beach adventure is great. And if you have your own snorkeling gear you can catch some pretty good snorkeling at Rum Pointe. I saw some really nice mutlicolored fish, lots of starfish, and a barracuda. The water is spectacular and the beach shaded and beautiful. The Cayman Isands are my favorite stop on the Western. Have fun!

I visited Grand Cayman a few years ago, and at that time there was a store there (I think it was a dive shop) but the woman who ran it took beautiful underwater photographs. Her name was Cathy Church and her photos are displayed in that store. All I remember is that it was on the main road around the island not far from Georgetown. I will try to find out the name of the store.

Also, there is a area called the Blow Holes where the ocean water blasts through these holes in the rock near the land and it gushes up like a Geyser. Its pretty cool!!

I am sure that the taxi drivers know these places. I will look for the name of the photography studio.

Also, Cathy Church is originally from Altoona, PA which I thought was pretty cool. How does a woman from Altoona, PA end up an underwater photographer in the Cayman Islands????

Hope you have a great cruise!!!

The Cathy Church Gallery is located in a resort called Sunset House.
