Booked a cruise for this Nov. Thinking of booking the dolphin encounter but want to walk over to the turtle farm. Are we able to do this or do we have to stay in a group the whole time or choose when to board the bus back to port?

Usually you will be told to be back at the bus at a certain time. If you aren't back when told, you could be left behind. I haven't been to the dolphin area at GC, so not sure how that exact excursion is done. Some excursions will include a certain amount of free time for you to do whatever you want. I would think your plan would work if it includes an hour or more free time since the turtle place is suppose to be close to the dolphin place. Just make sure you would be able to get back into where ever the bus picks you up since you would be leaving the dolphin area.

If you decide to stay a little longer, you can either grab a taxi or use the public bus to go back to the cruise port.

The dolphin place is literally right across the street from the turtle farm, if you have free time on the dolphin excursion, you would be able to walk around the turtle farm. That being said, not sure what your excursion's "rules" are about leaving the group.
