How long do we need here? Is it too rushed to do both Cpt Marvin's and the turtle farm?

Should be able to do both. We were part of an excursion package that included the turtle farm, the beach and the sting ray bay. The turtle farm is not that big

Be prepared if you go to the turtle farm.

This is actually a FARM - they are growing these turtles to eat them! They were having such a problem with locals catching the turtles in the wild for food, they started this farm. Now it is illegal to catch the turtles in the wild.
(There are some endangered species and injured turtles here also, that they release back into the ocean.)

Imagine my shock, when after feeding them dog food (that is what they eat) and taking my picture with them, we went into the "snack bar" for a soda. On the menu is "turtle soup" and other turtle edibles!

We weren't there on a tour or cruise, just a vacation, so I didn't have pre-warning about the "snacks" at the snack bar

My husband pointed out that it truly is like a farm, where they have the cow's etc. there for food - but I am a city girl and my food comes from the grocery store :D

It still is very interesting, with a nice little gift shop. Have fun!

I am sure you could do both, but from my experience we were pretty worn out after captain marvins, we did a lot of swimming at the reef and it was quite hot. We did a bit of shopping after stingray city and then headed back to have drinks on our veranda and watch the tenders go by.. It is tempting to try to do and see all while in port but my motto is have a quality experience that is non rushed and save something to do on the next cruise.

I find this disturbing! Disney should have made guests more aware of the "farm" I personally had no idea!

What praytell did you think a turtle farm was for? They raise turtles to sell as pets?

Is this something that you have to do an excursion for or can you take a taxi there? Also how much is admission if anyone can remember? Thanks.

Ann - you mean they actually eat those poor little things? Like cows, sheep, pigs and chickens?!!!!!!!!!!

Here is the link for the website for the Turtle Farm.

http://www.turtle.ky/

They have all the information about different transportation options if you don't take an excursion from the ship and admission costs.

Also really cute photos of baby turtles! :D

Or sort of a "fat farm" spa for overweight turtles?
