We'll be on the Fantasy in April. My parents will be joining DS7 and me. The last time we were in Grand Cayman, we did Stingray City, Starfish Point and snorkeling. We loved it, but we're looking for something different (and less time consuming). I'm thinking of booking one of the submarine or semi-sub excursions. Has anyone here done the Atlantis Submarine Expedition, SeaWorld Observatory Semi-Submarine or the Nautilus Undersea Tour? Any good? Worth the time/money? Thanks.

I did the Nautilus about 2.5 years ago. It is very close to the tendering location - an easy walk. It was perfect for our toddler at the time - essentially its a boat where the hull has big glass windows to look through 'underwater'. It is quite roomy, lots of room to move around. The crew gave a nice tour. Very clear underwater - I enjoyed it and would recommend, especially if you have a 7 year old.

Just did the Sea World Semi Submersible a few weeks ago. We enjoyed it. When we went, as you come down the stairs, we sat on the right. I recommend the left as they get a better view. If you are looking at a wall when you first sit down, that's the side we sat on and constantly had to keep looking behind us to see everything. There isn't a wall the whole time, but they seem to circle around to where the other side saw more of the ship wrecks. The fish and marine life will vary, but the wreckage and stuff seemed to be better on the other side. We saw many many fish, sting ray, mini sharks, and barracuda. It was perfect for the kiddos as they are just not quite ready to do full snorkeling. Our kiddos were 10, 10, and 7 at the time and they loved it.

Just to throw a monkey in your wrench, my sister's family did the Atlantis Submarine in Grand Cayman, and we have done it in other places. It is a true submarine, going 100+ feet underwater, so it gives you a really unique experience. The sub is close to the port and the whole thing doesn't take long. Because it is deeper, you do get to see a bigger variety of fish, but if colorful is your thing, this might not be the trip. One of the cool things is that as the sub descends the various colors become invisible. Red first, then the others, until only a glowing whitish purple remains. It was quite interesting! Make sure you brush your teeth well though because all white things will glow quite intensely down there!

Have fun with whatever you choose! Perhaps you'll be back a third time some day.

Thank you! The true sub sounds like a lot of fun. I think my son would love it, I'm afraid my mother would be terrified. If I can convince her to give it a whirl, that may be the winner. If not, I can always save the sub for another trip when it's just the two of us.

My 70-year old mother went with my sister and her family and she had a great time, if that helps at all...
