I know that you tender in at Grand Cayman, and from reading some paperwork, you cannot bring alcohol back with you. I have posted before, but I guess I still want clarification as to why you can't bring alcohol back. I know the ship can't accept deliveries, and I know that space on the tender boats is limited, but how do they police what you bring back? Are you limited to souveniers as well? I only bring it up b/c my DH and I like to collect unusual alcohols from the places we travel (like others would with pins, spoons, shot glasses, etc.)
Any help would be greatly appreciated. :confused3

I have never heard that you can't bring back alcohol onboard.....I have done it in other ports, not specifically GC but I did in Cozumel, St. Maarten, Nassau, etc.

Maybe GC has a restriction, don't know but I do know they x-ray every bag that comes aboard in port so that is how they would know if you had alcohol or not.

We were there last November and I don't remember seeing a restriction and I don't remember them saying anything. But it was still pretty devestated when we were there....not really much to buy and the prices were a bit on the high side.......

That is correct, in Grand Cayman if you are on the Disney ship..they won't even sell the alcohol to you. Well, they will if you buy it at the little gingerbread house right at the dock and they will walk you through customs with it right there at the dock before you tender back over to the ship. (which of course we found out after the fact) Other than that....don't know why, because you can bring alcohol aboard the other ships. Just not the disney ship.

On our May 2004 cruise we could buy alcohol in Grand Cayman either. I did ask at the liquor store why and said that the captain wanted you to purchase the alcohol on board. It didn't make sense to me. However, after the Grand Cayman stop there was tons of alcohol in the gift shops on board.

This makes no sense.......I purchased alcohol in Nassau, Freeport, St. Thomas and St. Maarteen and carried it right back onto the ship and placed it in our room. I didn't try on out Western sailing....don't know why. Why would they not let you at GC other than the fact that it is a customs issue. If you purchace bottles on board to can't have then 'till the last night....... :confused3

Is it that you can't buy & bring on board ANY alcohol or is it that you can't do the "duty free" alcohol? I believe that Grand Cayman has strict rules for "duty free" that it must be delivered directly to the ship and DCL doesn't allow that delivery. However, I would think that if you were to buy "non-duty free" alcohol which is probably VERY expensive since Grand Cayman taxes tend to be very high, then you could probably carry it on with you.

Just a guess here .... I haven't been there in over 12 years and I don't think we bought any alcohol then.

Could be!!!

I know DCL has a very liberal policy on bringing and consuming your own alcohol on board. There are not many cruiselines that allow you bring your own liquor onboard and consume it....we never even attempted to buy liquor in GC because we really did no shopping so it never ocurred to me if they allowed it in that port or not.

And yes, Lampskies is correct that if you purchase alcohol onboard the ship in the shop on Deck 3 that you CANNOT consume that onboard. They will hold it and then deliver it to your stateroom the last night.
