Grand Cayman or not?

One of our only 2 ports on our Feb 8th cruise is Grand Cayman. I just read the following:

"Phase 6: Welcome Back — January 27, 2022
Once the country has completed the first five phases, and following an assessment from the Government and health officials, the Cayman Islands will celebrate its grand reopening. All travelers will be welcomed without quarantine or travel restrictions. At this phase, cruise calls may resume."

This seems pretty tight for our cruise and it says MAY resume. So I'm wondering when we would know if there is a replacement port and is there a possibility there wouldn't be a replacement? Disney is still selling excursions for Grand Cayman for our cruise.

As with any cruise (pre or post COVID) if there is a itinerary change you may not know about it until the night before you're scheduled to be there (yes, onboard the ship). OR you might be notified weeks ahead. No way of knowing.

Yes, there's a possibility that there will be no replacement port, you'll get an extra sea day.

We are on a Celebrity cruise that departs on January 29th and was scheduled to call at Grand Cayman. However, we got notice a couple of weeks ago that they have changed the itinerary and we will not be stopping there.

An extra sea day would be the worst possible thing for our family! Since there are specific GC restrictions in place now almost until we cruise, I was really hoping Disney would let us know! As you can see above OKW Lover has already been notified by Celebrity. Communication through all of this has not been Disney's strong suit!

What was the replacement port for GC?

Is that a typo or did you mean that an extra sea day would be bad for you? If that’s really true cruising right now is maybe now right for you. It is always possible for a port day to become a sea day for any reason but it’s more likely now.

They actually made several changes to the itinerary. Originally we were scheduled for Key West, Grand Cayman, Falmouth Jamaica and Cozumel. Now the only thing that stayed the same is Cozumel. Key West, GC and Falmouth were all replaced. So we are hitting Nassau, Belize, Honduras and Cozumel instead.

Concierge so we're stuck. No, it wasn't a typo. We already have 4 sea days (out of 6). If the don't replace GC then it will be 5 sea days. I just might jump. :teeth:

Ah, got it. We're sailing from New Orleans and I think the only thing that might work is Costa Maya.

We were on the WBPC that ended up with 10 sea days (instead of the planned 7) so I get it. Although if it helps DCL did a lot to make those extra sea days fun. I hope it works out for you.

Even when GC is for sure happening, it is a fairly common port to miss. If the waters are at all choppy, it is a tender port and they will just not come in.

Funny we were just thinking about this cruise. We might be in New Orleans around this time for
a relative's birthday. The only 2 ports for a 6 night cruise stopped me. We have had so much
togetherness for the past 20 months that we really want to get out for some excursions. I called
and was told FOR NOW it is still a scheduled stop. Grand Cayman is a favorite port of mine so
it will be a huge miss for us if it is canceled. Normally I love sea days but not this time lol.

I'm never a fan of sea days on Disney. The issue with ports now is that we have to do a Disney excursion because the kids are not vaccinated. That is such a downer for us - so because of that I don't care what the replacement port is because pretty much the only excursions we can do are beach days. But I DO want a replacement! I can't imagine WHY Disney is cutting this so close and saying it's still a go. That makes me believe it's going to be a sea day.

If that's the case, I'd understand. But, it's not the case. Disney can certainly make a change now.

We are on the 1/2 sailing on the Fantasy with a stop in Grand Cayman. They still haven't told us what will happen. They definitely won't be docking. When someone looked at the docking schedule at the islands we are to visit, none of them have us coming in to port. Even one of the DCL phone reps confirmed that. He said that they must have something special planned. I'm concerned that they will up end the entire trip and reroute us someone else instead of a Western it will be an Eastern. I specifically booked this trip for Costa Maya as it is a port I haven't experienced. I've also booked all of my tastings and dining and I don't want DCL to wipe them all out and have to fight with everyone else to book again.

We are on the 12/5 Fantasy cruise and when they cancelled Grand Cayman (on 10/13) they added a sea day. No idea if that will be their standard response.

February sounds like a long time off. Ours is jn early January, and GC is still on the menu.

So reading this article they are opening for air travel NOV 20th. Yet not word on opening date for
cruises. Looking at some articles they don't seem to be in any hurry. Depending on the substitute
port I would have considered IF it was 3 ports instead of 2 on a 6 night. Too bad Castaway is not
included. Has DCL even sailed to Costa Maya?
