We did this a few years ago. We actually did alot of traveling int he Southwest and ended with the Grand Canyon and Vegas. At the Grand Canyon we stayed at the Grand Hotel. It is like a nicer Quality Inn or that level of accomodation. It is in the "village" of Tusayan. The Squire Inn is in Tusayan as well. Tusayan is a little towns full of motels and restaurants. It is not big but was fine and was a 5 minute drive to the gate of Grand Canyon National park. We thought the Grand Hotel was fine.
Having driven all over already the drive from Tusayan to Vegas wasn't quite so bad all though after passing through Kingman and heading north it did seem to drag a little.
In vegas I have stayed at The Paris, The Venetien and New York New York. I liked all three but enjoyed NYNY best.
