We have been discussing how much we needed a GCV add on. Our conclusion was, "not so much". We are thinking that, as popular as this DVC is bound to be, we are also thinking that we will wait until a dedicated DVC resort comes online at Disneyland.
We intend to use the current points we already have, to book overnights, and multiple weekday stays at GVC. But spending upwards of $5000.00 for 50 points for a once a year weekend stay is insanity, considering that with only 50 units, why should we even bother.

Good question! And will you be booking out at 11 months? With only 50 units I'm thinking early book will be a must!! I'm a SoCal resident and will NOT be purchasing GCV because I would never book a local stay 11 months out. Instead I'll be calling at the beginning of each month to see if there is a night here or there for the month. If it never happens no biggy! We'll just drive the 50 miles like we always have!

This is assuming that weekday stays will be easy to get. Don't be suprised if the points chart looks quite different for this resorts than others. Based on Disneyland crowd patterns, I can see weekend points requirements being very high, and weekdays very low. If this is the case, weekday demand will be much higher than you think. You may not have much luck booking at 7 months. I know we want to buy enough points for 5 weekdays a year during the summer in a 2 bedroom. I am just waiting to see what the points chart looks like.

That's almost exactly what we are looking for, except I'm thinking "Dream" season (May/Early June), rather than "Magic" season. I can't wait to see the points charts- do you think they are going to come out in the next couple of months?

My goal is to buy enough points to stay a Sat, Sun and Monday through Wed night in a studio in April/May. We're more than happy with a micro and fridge and have no desire to cook or do laundry. Later if we want the space of a one bedroom we can maybe add on. We actually kind of like sharing a room with the kids on these trips. For us a Disney vacation is sort of "all for one and one for all" as a family! We go during the off season and thus need Weekend nights in order to see the ELP and Fireworks. :lovestruc

We aren't members yet though and are holding out to buy our points at VGC if it ever becomes available to the public. I really think it might be pretty challenging to get a reservation at 7 months - there just aren't enough units.

I'm not sure. I think it will coincide with the start of sales. The models opened up this week, and I know sales are slow in California right now. I have no idea when sales will start, or the timeshare laws in California. I would assume something will happen by this fall at the latest.
