As was originally posted by SocalKdg & Mtnman44, AL Lutz at MiceAge is reporting that on Tuesday September 18th Disney Vacation Club will be making an official announcement that work has started on Disney's first Vacation Club property in California at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel. MiceAge has proven to be a very reliable source in the past.

I'm so shoping this is true! I'm going to be in a seminar all day on Tuesday so you know I'll be checking as soon as I get home!

Wow- I am so excited!!!!! How am I going to get ANY work done on Tuesday? With my luck it will be an afternoon announcement, and I'll spend all day looking for it...

Yippee! I'm not typing much since I broke my elbow last Sat.

I just called my CM, Jim McCoy, and told him that I want to buy 100 points at the Grand Californian Villas as soon as the points are available!

Wow! My decision back in June to sell 120 VB and HH points in order to buy GCV seems to be working out!

Hmmm--while I'm happy for all of you eager to buy into GCV, I'm wondering how this construction will affect the magic of my family's stay at GC in late November.
Anyone know where they're adding the DVC and whether it's impacting GC guests? Thanks! :)

I'm sure it will affect stays at some point, particularly noise and views, but I don't think it will get to the above the ground stage for several months.

By the way, somebody's magic is affected by something almost all the time. Nothing would every get built, fixed, maintained or improved otherwise. Just find the positives.

Stupid question but we will be able to use our VB points in California, correct? At 7 month window? This might be my way to get DH to the West Coast!

Yes,

This will be a DVC resort just like any other.

Just wondering... :scratchin

How do you know how many points to buy before any usage guides are published. With my family, we'd like to go to GCV every three years for 3-5 nights, but I don't know how much that will run me presently.

Do you think GCV will be in such high demand that we will need to "pre-order" our points or just let our guide know that we're interested? :hyper:

I will need to bank the points from one year and borrow the points from another to use the 300 points for a reservation for as many days in a 2BR as I can. I will then try to add as many days as possible with my other 430 points from other resorts at the 7 month window.

Why 100 points? That's all I want to spend. They are building CRV, you know! :thumbsup2

Because the DVC resort at the Grand Californian has not yet been announced, nobody on this board can give a definitive answer.

In fact, it's even possible that there won't be a Grand Californian DVC resort -- although I'm 99.9% convinced that it will become a reality. And I'm 98% convinced that it will be announced on Tuesday, September 18, based on Al Lutz's amazing track record.

Although it's possible that a Disney timeshare resort at the Grand Californian would be a separate program, it seems much, much, much more likely that it will become part of the DVC family of resorts, with the usual 12 month and 7 month rules.

I have a question. We were originally thinking of purchasing at GCV. However when dh and I discussed it we were concerned because they can only build up and not out and it will feel more like a condo than the resort feel you get in WDW. What is your opinion on that?

I don't know if I would like that too much; however, looking at the Contemporary DVC, Suites, whatever there going to be, they will also be built up instead of out.

According to the Anaheim Resort General plan, based on the location, and it's proximity to Disneyland Drive, the maximum height will be 5 stories. (The current height of the existing GCH). This is the same height as BCV, VWL, and BWV. If those feel like condos to you, than I would skip buying at any of those places and maybe buy OKW.

Oh I am not concerned about the building itself. What concerns us it wont have the spread out resort feel like the DVC resorts in WDW have.
