Grand Californian Super Thread

Thanks for the bit of information.

So our first night here and sadly not living up to our expectations of being at least comfortable. Our room was hot when we arrived. The TV had a weather station on and not the Welcome family message. Silly I know, but a little thing I was looking forward to seeing upon arriving. So back to the hot room, we have the air turned all the way down to 65. We left for a bit to walk Downtown Disney and grab some food. Come back to our room and it's still pretty warm. We have our house set to 73 and it's much cooler than this (we're in 3 digit weather in AZ too). I've tried to search this thread to see if other had any mentions of their rooms being warm, but nope. I talked to reception and they offered to bring two fans up to our room. So that's what we did. An electrician will come up tomorrow to check it.
We stay at the GCH several times yearly. Last summer, we took my DDs and my nieces, so we had connecting rooms. The girls’ room was notably more stuffy and hot upon check in, even with the thermostats set the same as our room. I called and asked that it be looked at, and it was no better that evening. The next morning, I went in person to the front desk, and they had it fixed that evening. They did try to say “did you leave the balcony door open” and “the AC is motion activated”. I said I realized all of those things, but their room was measurably hotter compared to ours, all of those other things being equal between the rooms.

Hope yours got fixed! Go to the desk in person and insist it is fixed or they move you!

Oh, the motion activated comment reminds me...I remember someone saying getting a balloon for the room helps to keep it on (constant motion). But that doesn't seem like a reasonable expectation for the GCH price tag. Especially in your situation when you had two rooms and one was noticably stuffier at the same set temp.

ETA: I found the thread I was thinking of! In addition to the balloon tip (which sounds like may or may not work), there are also instructions on how to override the thermostat: https://www.disboards.com/threads/coldest-hotel-room-a-c-at-disneyland.3899598/

Hey all, what's the likelihood that "Pool view" will be a decent park view? The phone rep/CM called it "premium view" and that it could be park or pool view, but the reservation online is labeled "pool view." I assume they just combine the two into one category.

I also have a separate reservation that is "Downtown Disney view" that was a total of $68.8 less expensive for the 4 nights we'll be there. I'm torn on which one to keep. I wonder if Downtown Disney will be loud, but I like that it saves a little. Also, the one time I stayed here we had a view of the pool so looking into Downtown Disney could be something different--unless I'm able to get an actual park view and that would be awesome and totally worth the extra!

When I bring up the in room dining breakfast menu all that shows up is a Kids Breakfast Plate. Is anyone else able to load the full breakfast menu for in room dining?

Also, where can I find the pool service menu? I’m assuming one can order food to their lounge chair, but please correct me if I’m wrong. Thank you!

Back from our most magical trip ever. Didn’t get the 5th sleeper, but was upgraded to park view (I think), overlooking the GC entrance to DCA—room 5347. Originally had woods-courtyard booked. I could see the Main Street train station, Space Mountain and Grizzly Peak. Watched the fireworks a couple of nights from the balconyy. Kids slept great in the same bed because they fell asleep so quickly, and those mattresses and pillows are 👌
can you remember what your walk from 5347 to the napa rose elevator was like? Did it seem like a never ending hallway?

Any pics of the view? Sounds great!

I found this of 4347, so should be similar? Same room but one floor down:

I really want to request it but also need to know what the walk to the elevators are like…

Look at 337 and it should be that but on 4th floor. So the elevators (marked by E) are pretty close and close to the park entrance!

I've found it on the map but sometimes seeing it on a map vs actually walking that walk are two different things. That room is about 9 rooms down from the elevator
I'm curious how long 9 rooms down a hallway actually is. We have only stayed in a standard room right off of the main lobby, no door down, just off the elevator and then straight ahead, probably 3101 or 3103

Every step matters to us because my husband walks on prosthetics.

In terms of distance, I would say it’s a great location compared to most rooms. Very close to the DCA entrance and the pool.

Yes, you can order food and drinks from the pool. Servers walk around to your seats and take your order. Wish I took a pic from our last trip!

Any recs for a room request? We're in a downtown disney view room (I guess that would be the odd numbered rooms 135-167 or 419 to 449 (guessing room numbering increments with floor) initial thoughts would be something that gives us easy access to both the security entrances DD and DCA

Well, I'd request the closest to the bend (where the L turns) so you don't have to walk as far. The 400s will be closest to the Napa Rose elevators and most convenient to DCA. The 100s will be closest to the main lobby elevators, which is a bit better for entering DTD. There are more lobby elevators but the Napa Rose elevators aren't usually as busy.

Other than that, I'm not really sure what to recommend as I've never stayed in a DTD view room.
