Grand Californian Super Thread

We stayed in a standard room and some might say it was a bad view because if overlooked the front of the hotel and was partially blocked by a tree. But it was on the third floor right off the stairs and elevator and next to the concierge desk. It was a great location. I would trade a view for that location any day.
I always request a standard room close to elevators. There are very few rooms in the hotel with "bad" views, but there are bad locations, as noted by other posters!

My standard room in Dec also overlooked the front of the hotel, but it was beautiful! The trees were full of lights, and it was so pretty at night.

Two questions from a WDW Vet going to DL and GCH for the first time.

1) Do you call to make hotel requests like room location and a full shower like you do for WDW?

2) Does GCH have the length of stay refillable mugs like the WDW resorts?

TIA!!!

2. No

Does anyone have recent reviews or info on staying club level? We’re frequent WDW club level goers and wondering how similar/different it is over there.

I cannot wait to stay here again. I am very sad we moved our trip from Christmas to Thanksgiving. We will still have the lights though o I am very excited, and we paid it off on Friday so now to save for meals and spending money.
We are going over the holidays & part of me almost wishes we were doing November or January because of the crowds. Ive always wanted to go over the holidays so I am happy but still. You are going to get all the pretty lights and decor without as much crowds :)

Any tips on getting requests honored with CG? I've asked for requests in the past, none of which I thought were too aggressive/or unobtainable. I've stayed their numerous times and just seem to never quite get my requests fulfilled.

If you don’t mind me asking what type of request are you asking for?

Not recent, it was a year ago. However, in my experience with Disney Club levels, the GCH is the best one I've done, hands down. It's not even close. The lounge is super nice. The outdoor balcony is lovely. The food is fantastic and they have great drinks (and the coolest on demand sparkling water machine that I want in my house when I win the lottery).

I've stayed at the following WDW Club Levels:

Contemporary 14th Floor Tower Club
Beach Club
Yacht Club
Wilderness Lodge
Boardwalk

We had 2 rooms, wanted close together for babysitting reasons. I called several weeks prior to coming and requested that in my reservation. We ended up 2 full hallways away from each other.
I am not sure if it will help but the CMs I have spoken to notated(it sounds like you already done that) but I was told to make the request again when I check in at the front desk. I have heard that it can be best to not mobile check in but to go to the front desk because it is easier to for them to do it before the room has been assigned,

That's what happened to us. I called probably 4 times (once when I booked, once at 3 weeks out, again at 10 days out, then again at 1 day out to confirm) to ask to be close to an elevator due to mobility issues from surgery and hopefully facing the Grizzly Peak area and gave a block of rooms we were hopeful for (x345 - x410). We faced the Grizzly Peak area, but it was down 2 hallways in I believe room 3442 or 3444.

We didn't think it would be that big of a deal when we got notification of our room being ready on the plane. I hurried and looked at a map and thought it was closer than it was. It felt like so far away at the end of the night, especially with my mom's knee that trip. Looking back, I should have stopped at the front desk to ask if there were any closer rooms available, but the luggage had arrived quickly and I didn't want to wait in the long check-in line. The room also let in music from California Adventure and hallway pretty clearly but I already wrote about that before on this thread (Michael Jackson's Billie Jean played until well into the evening over the CA loudspeakers ).

I think that's also one of the reasons we like the DLH so much, reasonable hallways lol

Hahaha, it sounds like it was a pretty rare occurrence luckily. We legit thought we were crazy or dreaming, until everyone woke up at the same time and was like...that's not Oogie Boogie Bash music playing anymore at 3am. Is that....Billie Jean?? I stood up, opened the door, confirmed it. Then we all went back to sleep only to be woken up by it again at 4:30am lol

I don't think ice coffee could of helped me in the morning -- I might have to just start drinking 🤣
