Grand Californian Expansion and Time Share Permits Filed

According to their website, they are a big timeshare builder, having built for Westmark, Embassy Suites, and Fairfield. They also built the Portofino Bay hotel at Universal Orlando. In addition they built the Men in Black attraction at Universal Orlando. It sounds like they are well qualified to pull off the GCH Villas.

Just a quick update. I had business this afternoon/evening in Orange County. Stopped by the GCH to see if there was any evidence of work on the hotel. I did not notice any change with the overhang, but I did see that they just removed about a 30 foot swath of trees along the fence dividing the Grassy field from the Valet parking lot. Upon closer inspection, there is a large gate there. I never noticed this before. They must be creating an accessway to prepare the site. More importantly I spoke to two different Employees, one was a GCH employee who told me that they were all told to prepare for construction on the south west side of the hotel. The other, A DVC person at DTD told me that they were told to expect a big announcement in about 2 weeks. (She did not know what the announcement was going to be) Neither of these people knew of the permits.

We were just at the Grand Californian last week for the first time. It is beautiful and we really enjoyed staying there. It reminded us of the Wilderness Lodge. One question, where is there room to building GCV's??

Here is an image from Google Maps- the expansion will be taking over the valet parking lot seen to the south of the main entrance (notice, you can tell it was designed to be the "footprint" of a new expansion- it is the exact same width as the wing it comes off of).

Rumor is, the expansion will also take over some of the grassy area, and on previous threads we've guessed that they are probably going to have a "T" shaped addition- the "L" shaped parking lot, plus an additional wing onto the lawn.
