For those too lazy to follow the link...

ANAHEIM – Disney is planning to expand the Grand Californian Hotel and Spa, its high-end lodge in the Disneyland Resort, by adding about 250 units, including the first vacation-ownership villas, the company is expected to announce today.

The expanded hotel would grow by 2.5 acres, stretching south of the hotel that opened in 2001 alongside Downtown Disney and Disney's California Adventure theme park. The Grand Californian already has 745 rooms.

The first Disney Vacation Club units on the West Coast – 50 two-bedroom-equivalent villas – would be part of the new area. The club is a vacation-ownership program that includes other Disney locations and associated members.

"This expansion underscores our commitment to growing and investing in both the Disneyland Resort and the Anaheim Resort Area," said Ed Grier, Disneyland Resort president, in a prepared statement.

About half the size of the smallest current DVC resort Villas at Wilderness Lodge. approximately 750,000 points for sale.

WOW- I was hoping I could squeeze in a the 7mo mark someday- but I am not so sure if that will be a possibility:upsidedow

I agree, those of us hoping to book at 7 months may be out of luck. Heck, GCV owners will probably have to book day-by-day at 11 months for the more popular times. I'm really eager to see a point chart and cost per point. I'm already budgeting for a small add-on.

So lets say that people buy 160 pts that would come to 4,687 contracts.
750,000 divided by 160 = 4,687....not that everyone will by that many it is just an example because some will by more some will buy less.

so that will sell fast and getting a room if everyone decides to go and use there pts there each year than getting in seems very tough.

Agree with the AP discounts because at that point (pun intended) being a local as we are only 1hr 15 minutes away may be cheeper to just get the AP4 rates than purchase pts unless they come in with a great rate like they did with SSR at $86.00

Dont mind using my pts know at DL since we need to use them anyway. But if they decide to take away the way we use our pts there know at the other hotels than that would be terrible. One of the reasons we purchased our pts was because we live so close to DL so if they take the pts away and only have a limited way to get in if you purchase pts than we will be very dissapointed.
so what say you?

Hmmm- let's hope they only take away the ability to use points on Disney Collection from the GC- but still have the option, as is, for the other 2 hotels. That would be my guess as to how they would handle it.
