a night for a standard room? Ok, $795 to be exact, but with taxes, etc it will be more. WHO pays that??? I'm planning next summer's trip and my DD wanted to stay at Grand Californian. I said we would if the price was right. We've stayed there 3 times in the past at roughly $500 a night, but each time the price was split three ways. It's just my family next year, nobody to split the cost with. Does DL usually offer summer hotel discounts? Even with the discount, we're just going to stay across the street.

Me too, and $500 is a lot better than $800, lol.
It is. People seem to love the Grand but I haven’t been able to tell why exactly it’s “worth” so much more. The rooms seem about the same size from pictures. The location is a little closer, but not all that much closer (not $250+ closer). You can make use of the restaurants and stuff even if not staying there…

Like if the Grand literally had a monorail stop in it/directly outside it and you could use that for Early Morning hours to get in the park, AND you were able to pull a boarding group for new/highly popular rides before the general public, and maybe if they gave 30 days earlier booking for Chefs Counter at Napa Rose… maybe then the Grand would be worth the extra price.

But as it stands, the DLH has beautiful grounds (even if you don’t swim, they look wonderful walking around), possibly better general views since the towers are taller (I’m not talking about $1000+ theme park view rooms at the Grand), Trader Sam’s, pretty good location (full bubble, no walking along a parking lot like PP)…

I could see Grand having certain rooms being more expensive by a decent amount (view rooms, etc) but I’m a little surprised the lowest rooms aren’t more like +$50/night over DLH instead of such a huge jump.

I remember in the early nineties thinking that anything over $40 a night for a hotel room was extortionate.

It’s not common any more, but I have seen rooms for less than $100 a night at some of the area motels recently.

I highly doubt I’ll ever stay on site considering how I can get 5 nights at an area motel for the cost of 1 at the DLH. I just don’t see enough value to justify the cost.

I paid $44/night in 2012, ha! But it was at the Super 8 behind Castle Inn and Suites, so it was a bit of a walk. But for $44 a night, that was a walk I was willing to take! 2014 it was $69/night at Desert Inn and Suites across the street. Now, it's nearly double that. .... However I'm cheap enough that I will probably never stay on-site at Disneyland.

Yea I don’t understand the on property prices, but clearly other people find value in them so more power to them.

If I’m looking to spend 800 a night I’m going to Pelican Hill and hitting up Disneyland on the way home.

Only way I’m staying on property is if I have the opportunity for one of the mega themed rooms, and I haven’t reached that level of baller status yet unfortunately.

Who pays that? The people who believe the best must be the most expensive.

Or people who understand why the resort is so great to stay at and value those qualities.

We paid it over 4th of July weekend. I've never paid rack rate EVER at a Disney resort. We paid it because we really, really, REALLY wanted to continue our annual Disney 4th of July tradition that we had to skip in 2020. We figured since we didn't travel at all in 2020, we had twice as much to spend.

I will not say it wasn't worth it. It was worth every penny.

I can see that for tradition and emotional sake.

This. I'm pretty OK with most of the Hyatt, Marriott and Hilton options nearby. Not going for the cheapest motels though. At least for the price I'm going for, 1 night at DLH is equivalent to about 3 nights where I stay and 1 night at the Grand Californian about 5 nights.

I have stayed at the Disneyland Hotel before and understand how it's worth a slight premium to most of the Harbor hotels but I don't value it at more than $200 given that the JW Marriott is barely over $200 a night.

For me, the only reason I would pick the Disneyland Hotel at their inflated price is if there was some special event that I needed Extra Magic Hours to maximize. For example, I would consider it if actors from recent shows/movies were in the parks meeting guests for just one day and you needed to start lining up for them during EMH.

That's wonderful, and I think it's great some people are able to do so.

Not sure why we have to repeat the “is it worth it to stay onsite” discussion every few weeks as if the question can be objectively answered. “Worth” is an entirely subjective measure. The cost is worth it to some and not to others.
I know it's worth it to some people. I was just shocked to see the price go up THAT high!!

Because people are confused and fascinated by people who live different lives. It is part of being human and why we have stories.

And who knows, maybe at a certain point your views change because you have changed. Or someone has a pov you have never considered.

Even when we know in advance a topic is incredibly subjective, doesnt mean it isn't worth discussing it.

I’m also one who have trouble seeing the worth of GC for $800.. even $500 is too much for me. It’s also because I live 15 min away and never felt the need to stay on property before. Saying that, I am a fairly new DVC owner and I booked a room to avoid paying for parking and man, I loved it. I spent some time hanging out of my balcony since I had a view of the Ferris wheel and goofy ride. Also it was so easy to sneak back to my room for a quick shower and nap mid day. But I did use points and for me the value of those points equates in my mind to be under $200/nt. Now even though I have free parking with my MK I still find myself checking to see if there’s any GC rooms available for me to book. For a local, it does change the park going experience a bit to make it feel like a special vacation.
