I know this isn't exactly a theme park activity but it didn't seem to belong on the Resorts board either.

I would like to hear from people whose kids have done this. My kids have seen it on Food Network or Travel channel and all thought it looked cool. I think it would be fun for them but want to get some been there, done that experiences.

TIA!

My kids have done it the past 2 years. In fact, they just did in earlier this month. I have 2 DD's, 5 and 7. The special on the Food Network makes it look like the GF Chef Drew is actually there, but its actually the same CM's that do the Pirate Cruise and the Tea Party. (At least the 2 times we have been)

My kids really enjoyed this. Was it worth the $32? I don't know, but having 2 hours to walk around the GF and do whatever you want is nice too. Also, on the special, they show the kids walking into the lobby. When mine did it, both times, they just handed out cookies or cakes in the back lobby by the GF Cafe. They get the nice apron to keep, and the Chef hat. The Chef Hat was cloth last year, but this year was paper. On the apron, they put their handprints, and an adult there dates it. Nice keepsake. I would defintaley book it again. :earsboy:

Hi! My DD6 just did the GA in C on Oct 11th, and also the Albatross Cruise at The Y&BC on Oct 12 and she said she preferred the GA in C. It was $30 and she did get a keepsake apron (that is actually adult sized...so I can wear it!) and a paper hat. The only thing that disappointed me was they did not make cakes or cookies, they made "worms and mud (you know, chocolate pudding with gummy worms.) So, after they passed them out in the lobby (there were not too many people around) we got to take the remainder home...well, what the heck are we gonna do with a bunch of containers of pudding that need to be refrigerated? We were on our way to the parks afterwards. Plus you need to spoons to eat it...just wasn't as cool as cookies would have been.

It was really nice to sit at the GF in the lobby for 2 hours while the kids were in the GA of C.. I was with a girlfriend and of course we could have eaten but we were saving room for the princess lunch at Epcot in a few hours. So we just passed time chit chatting and taking in the lobby. You never really have a reason to just "sit" in a beautiful lobby, so that was nice.

We also walked with the girls (my DD and her DD) to the wedding pavillion and took a bunch of pictures of them inside and out...just in case they DO get married there one day, we will have the pictures of them there as little girls!

I am sick, I know! LOL!

HOw far can you go with the pager they give you? I was just thinking it might be a good time for DH and I to go to the Kona Cafe. Hmm, not really sure I would be comfortable with that. Sounds fun, but also sounds like a lot of girls did this. I have two little boys who will be almost 6 and 4 by the time we go. (DD9 too.) They love to cook, but it might be odd to be the only boys there.

I think you can leave the resort with the pagers.. no one told us we couldnt.. and I know some people did.

We enjoyed just having a peaceful breakfast at the GF..

I think you can leave the resort with the pagers. they are probably the same pagers that they give you if you leave your child at a kid's club on property. You could also leave your cel phone number, too. I wanted to ride the monorail for the two hours, and check out other resorts, but my girlfriend didn't want to leave the resort the kids were at.

I did see several boys in the class!

My DS did this in September and loved it. Everytime we went past the GF he would mention that there was cooking class. He turned 4 the day before he went, so I'm sure he was the youngest there. He loves helping me back and decorate and they decorated cookies. The apron was adorable and I have some great pics of him all dressed up.
He will definately do it again on our next trip in feb/march. It was a nice time for hubby and I to go grab a quite bite to eat and walk around GF and sit in the comfy lobby and chill out :cool1:

there were plenty of boys who did it last time..including my son in the picture.. but lots of others too!

He has done it twice.. once they made cookies and the other time, dirt and worms.

I am in a picture, I am almost famous :)
As for Chef Drew, he hasn't been doing the cooking class in over 4 years, the show you have seen is over 4 years old.
Pagers, you can leave the resort, but don't go far. Those are for an emergency and if we need you, it doesn't do anyone any good, if you are at downtown disney and taking the bus. The Poly is the farest we with are comfortable with you going.
