Graduation gift for high schooler going to college

This may be a bit off topic, but my niece is graduating high school this year, and I want to get her a gift she can use at college.....all she told me was money!

But thought you all might have another idea for me.

Honestly, money is the best thing. I know you'd probably rather get a present, but it's really hard to tell until you're in the thick of things what you are going to need, and a lot of that you have to pick out yourself. Take her shopping for a new backpack, maybe? She'll need a nice, durable one, and that gives you a chance to be the cool aunt and hang out with her for a while.

This is really early in the year to be thinking of this! Does she know where she's going yet? That makes a difference.

What's really helpful is a grocery store gift card!!
Unless she has a meal plan (helloooo, freshman 15 ).
But still, I think it's better than cash or a target/walmart giftcard, cause it kind of forces you to spend it on food and not clothes, makeup, movies, etc...

Will she be moving out of the house? In that case, daily necessities are always appreciated. Soap, Laundry Detergent, Dryer Sheets, Febreeze, Big Fluffy Towels, Toothpaste, etc. Stick it all in a pop out laundry bag/container and your good to go!

A friend gave my group of HS friends huge towels with our names embroidered on them. Seemed pretty simple at the time - but I used it all the time and it was easily identifiable as mine so no one else touched it!
