I hope you're move goes smoothly tomorrow, you'll be in need of a massage when you're done.

Home again. That's it for the day. I'm now hunkering down and staying home. Cold and wet outside.

Ok, I'm going to ask my lasting friends some questions that involve really large dollar values and whether you think they are worth some things and what we should do.

Here is scenario. The GAY Freedom Band of LA marched in every Southern California Parade or at least the LA parade since 1978. Some stupid people hijacked members of the band last year so that we couldn't march (they formed a new band that was willing to march even if they sounded like crap and didn't have enough people to even look like a band).

It just so happened that Fran and I had formed a new "Swing Band" "30-40's" era band that played hit of the classic era. Last year we rode on a float in both Long Beach and LA Pride Parades to massive acclaim. We can do it again this year and it will cost us a lot of "tax deductable money" to do so. However we have to hire an entire rythum section (which isn't that hard with craigslist), but it will take a little effort. We won the "President's trophy" at Long Beach last year while even though they still don't have us listed on the website our fee is waived.

What I'm wondering, do we do this? It's Fran's dream to have swing band. She wanted it after we were thrown out of the one we met in (since she has always loved the music and fought to start this one) or do I let it drop since her leg injury is so bad? It will be a ton of work, but sort of worth it for her to be able to play, but it it will cost us a lot of money since our stupid drummer joined the peace corps and we have to hire a new one and a bass players plus a piano player.

The question is, do I let Fran continue her dream of this swing band this year while she is down for the count so it is here for her next year or let it fade away and take the easy way out? I sort of know the answer but I want confirmation from you all.

Alison, there seems to be a ton of 'history' behind the swing band for Fran. I'm guessing that there is even more emotion associated with it.

If this is the case...and knowing how stubborn Fran can be.....I would put the effort in and get the swing band in place this year and next.

Of course it just depends on the money side of things, and yes...it is only money. But I'm sure you already know this....you don't want to get into debt for this.

I don't think you should talk to Fran about it wether you do it or not. The stress of planning won't help her. If you get it together, she will want to be playing that day and it may not be good for her.

That is double rude!

I know, right! He's lucky he gave me my husband. Just kidding.

It was OK, they said the wound looked better.

That's good news. I hope that put her mind at ease a little.

That is quite a dilemna. I really feel unquailified to weigh in, but in true DIS fashion, I am going to anyway. It seems like this is a lifelong dream of hers. I always think people should go for their dreams, but agree with Princess that you should not go into debt to do it. If you could comfortably invest your time and money, I would say do it. The sooner, the better. I know Fran has a lot going on right now with her injury, but this could get her mind off that and onto something else. At the same time, the potential stress this could cause (expenses, time, getting a new group together, rehearsing, etc) would just add to the stress she is already feeling with her recovery.

It really is a tough call. I guess my determining factor would be how do you truly feel about it? If you are not into it, I do not think it is fair to drag you through the unnecessary stress. DH and I have things that we do together and things that we persue separately. She should go after it on her own if you are not into it with minimal input from you. There is a balance between supporting her and putting what you want aside for her. All of that said, I think it sounds really cool. Getting a tax deduction for doing a wonderful thing sounds like a dream come true. I hope she gets what she wants, and you get what you want. If those wants are different, hopefully you can meet somewhere in the middle.

If you both want the band, I would love to hear something down the road.

Well it seems like money will not be an option as the thing we are talking about closes about in weeks
