I just booked our plane tickets for our March trip and it will be the first time flying out of the Midway Airport in Chicago. What suggestions can anyone give me to make it as easy as possible. Also if anyone has some good driving directions from Grand Rapids MI I would appreciate it.

We will also be staying at one of the hotels by the Orlando airport for the first time since it will be a late flight - suggestions welcome.

Thanks
Denise

Directions in a nutshell: once you get into Indiana, follow Interstate 80/94 into Illinois. Then look for Interstate 294 North. Take Interstate 294 North (toward Wisconsin) to Interstate 55 North (toward Chicago). Get off I-55 at Cicero Avenue and follow Cicero Avenue south to Midway Airport.

We did priceline for a hotel near the airport. For $35.50 (28, plus priceline fees) we got the Marriott which has a shuttle to and from the ariport, and is very convenient--easy to get to.

Thanks for the responses,

NCRedding,

When you used priceline did you put in anything special to get the Marriott?

Thanks
Denise

Hi, we live in Naperville, and have a summer cottage in Saugatuck, MI, and what I have found is that the traffic can be awesome, depending on when you are leaving....

Also, speed limits from MI to IL go down, as you get closer. So I would aim for a 3 hour pad, before takeoff time, just to make sure.

My other tip, is to bring food and drink with you (sandwiches, etc) because finding food at Midway can be expensive, and selection is not that great. And planes don't feed you. A hungry toddler is a mean toddler!!!

Also, the area around Midway is not the best, so best to fill up with gas before you hit 55.

My half way point for gas and potty break is Michigan City, Indiana, by the shopping outlets.

Hope this helps,

Goldi

Oh, and bring lugguage with wheels, if possible. (Will need to take a bus from parking to the terminal).

Might I suggest leaving your car by Midway Airport at a place called Midway Park and Fly. (www.midwayparkandfly.com)

We have used is 2X's so far and it's great! :) It's $7.50/day in increments of 24 hours. You pull in and park - they have a very nice shuttle bus that pulls up behind your car and the driver puts your luggage in the bus. You are taken direct to your airlines. They give you a phone number to call when you deboard your plane to call and the shuttle bus meets you outside the luggage claim area to drive you back to your car. Check out the website.

Again, it's a great service for the price! (We usually tip the driver a couple of bucks each way - they are really nice and helpful!)

Midway Parksavers is also really good too. They are within walking distance of the airport, so no need to mess with shuttle buses. You just walk across the street to the Orange Line entrance. ATA's website has a coupon for a free one day of parking...we use them all the time.
