Has anyone heard of "Public Beach" located near the Westin?
Says it has a playground, cabana, picnic tables, and bathrooms.

1. How much is taxi fare?
2. Any food available or do we bring our own?

How about "Public Beach" near Holiday Inn-
1. Taxi fare cost?
2. Is Food available-do we have to cross street to Holiday Inn or is it located right there?
3. Are the bathrooms public or part of Holiday Inn?

Any help appreciated, sailing in 5 days!!!

I am interested in this also
I have found it very hard to get details about beaches there.

We are doing the land/sea tour that meets at 7:30 and I thought it would be nice to
go to the beach after for a few hours
7 mile sounds nice(touristy) near Holiday Inn free
it does not seem to be real wide from what I have read.
I heard the public beach was nice too
but I didn't know which would be better
I would like a calm beach
that way I won't be worrying about the kids being swept away

people seem to like rum point but that is an hour drive
so that would waste too much time for us.

HELP!
too bad there wasn't a sally in grand cayman.

We went to the beach at the Holiday Inn. The taxi fare was about $4 US per person. When you arrive their is an area to the left that is reserved for cruise line passsengers. The area to the right is for hotel guests only. You can rent lounge chairs (for $8.00 I think). Each comes with a free drink (water or can soda). They have bathrooms that you can use but few stalls (may have to wait a bit). They also had food for sale with tables and chairs. Can't comment on the quality/price because we did not eat there. The water is beautiful at the beach at the Holiday Inn. If you have little ones you need to be careful of the dropoff. In a short distance from the shoreline the bottom drops off significantly. My 5 year old did OK, just concerned about younger ones.

Got a hint from a local when leaving to take the bus instead of a taxi to the turtle farm (our next stop). The bus stop is just in front of the taxi stand. Bus ride to the turtle farm was about $1.25 US per person. Took a bus back to the port area for about $2 US per person - much less than a taxi would be. One caution is to ask the locals where the bus stops are as they are not always obvious. The bus drivers were very friendly and helpful.

Hope this helps!

bumping up because I'm leaving in 2 days!!!

Anyone know anything about the beach near the Westin?

Thanks for your help.

The beach at the Westin is on one of the nicest parts of 7 Mile Beach. The beach at the Holiday Inn is a little rocky in the water. I love the Westin beach!!

It is my understanding that the hotels on 7 Mile Beach do not own the beach itself. So, technically you can go anywhere on the beach, it's just that the chairs and facility are for guests only. There are public accesses to the beach all along 7 Mile Beach including one at the Westin. It's between the Villas of Galleon and the Westin or as you face the Westin from the road, it is to the left.

There is also a Public Beach up near the Holiday Inn. It is not a bad beach, in fact in the water it is sandier than at the Holiday Inn itself. And there are picnic tables and I think some kids playground equipment and bathrooms.

Do you know if you can get food and/or drinks by the Westin?

I read that there was playground equipment near Westin, is there also some by Holiday Inn?

Thanks for the help!!!

I remember seeing a poolside bar at the Westin. But I don't know if they had food there too. And I don't remember seeing any playground equipment there. I can't say for sure. I do know that they have the equipment on the "Public Beach" which is adjacent to the Holiday Inn. When I was at the beach at the Westin, we were actually more over by the Villas of Galleon and just played in the sand and the water for a couple of hours before returning to the ship.

FYI there is a great italian/seafood restaurant in the complex(group of buildings) across the road from the Public Beach. Its called Neptunes and they have really good food. You can even make an order to go and take it back with you to the beach there as they have little covered cabanas that are perfect for lunches.

Neptunes Restaurant- Across from Public Beach

They have the best Ravioli:D

Wish I had checked in before we left. Ended up at 7 mile beach across from Holiday Inn. Cost $4pp each for taxi.

FYI for you future sailers, ask for a receipt when ordering from any beach servers. We tipped our waitress and then asked for one to divide the bill. A tip had already been added in so we double tipped her.

Try e mailing the Westin and ask them your questions. I did that with the Holiday Inn. They also told me that we could use their pool, which we did after the beach. It was great to cool off in the pool and it was empty. Just us there.

I agree with the slope on the beach. I as an adult wasn't too fond of it. Be careful with the little ones.

we went to seven mile beach too!
we did the land sea tour and they dropped us off at Royal Palms
It cost us 7$ to get in
the tour person didn't let us know that.
I had mentioned to him about the holiday Inn and he suggested it to us
they had a changing room, showers fairly clean.
Chair rentals for 8$
Beers Coronas 2 for 11$ OUCH!
they had a subway but we didn't eat there.
The westin looked nice
we saved ourselves 4$ each by getting dropped off at royal palms otherwise
we would have had to pay to go back from the port
