I picked up the UNC Daily Tarheel newspaper this morning. There is a short blurb about an article in GQ that names Duke University as ranked number 2 in the "douchiest" college category. What the heck does that mean?

Maybe it means that someone did a lame poll on their website and that was the result?

Pretty mean, really.

ETA...that is what is was....:lmao:

I looked at that article (thanks for the link). I still don't get it. What do they mean by "douchiest"?

Means Duke didn't buy enough ad space in GQ. :rolleyes1

BTW douchebag is a deragatory term guys use for other guys who's egos are a tad large and have crappy attitudes.

Thanks Hercules.

I've heard the term douchebag before, but I never knew what it meant exactly. And now the article makes more sense to me. But, man, what a stupid poll.

I thought the article was kind of funny. It picks out specific types we've all met from each alma mater. Douchiest-as in taking oneself way too seriously or thinking you're better/more special than the next guy.

Gotta say it was correct for my alma mater, Ohio State (came in at #19):

Home of: The Excessive-School-Pride Douche

Affectations: Dressing for class each morning as if you were the offensive-line coach; writing prison letters to Maurice Clarett.

Overheard at Buckeye career-building workshop: "You can put 'Won a national championship' on a résumé, right?"

Most likely to: Suffocate a hapless Boilermakers fan with a giant foam Number One after offhand comment about how the marching band's "Script Ohio" wasn't all that impressive.

:lmao:

For instance, TMZ enjoys using the term for Jon Gosselin in his ugly Ed Hardy shirts...

I read the description, and while I'm sure it fits some there, it doesn't fit those I knew who went there. Although...my brother was one of the shirtless guys at the basketball games who painted their chests with D, U, K, or E back in the early 90s (even made a newspaper sports section front page!), so maybe the shirtless thing isn't SO off. However, it wasn't at parties, and definitely not frat parties, and my brother didn't drink in college...nor did he EVER wear mocassins (though he did live in Miami during the Miami Vice days and I KNOW I saw him without socks on most occasions while he was in HS).

I'm not even gonna send the article on to them...after all, with two extremely successful Duke alum in my family, who have no kids of their own and love my son and have stated that they will send him to college on their dime...I'm not risking making them annoyed in my general direction...:rotfl:

Using the term for Jon Gosslin seems pretty apt. Thanks for that smile.

And I don't blame you for not passing that along.

Hummm, DH is a Brown grad and it ranked #1. I can tell you that the description fits neither my DH nor any of his classmates......what a ridiculous poll.......

I always think of DUKE as well respected.

it is always fun to watch Duke and the Tarheels play. My grandmother was from NC and she'd actually get fiesty about that ballgame! lol

I have to say that living in Durham I have come into a lot of contact with cocky Duke students. Not sure if I would call them douchy - but they sure do have an air of superiority about them.

it is funny....and sorry Domers but based on Regis's constant comments Notre Dame should be ranked higher...
:rotfl:

Duke's basketball coach fits that term. He's been said to the be "smuggest" coach in college basketball. He cusses his butt off, too. No class.

I would say about 99% of coaches (pro and college) "cuss their butts off." He coaches the U.S. Olympic team. He's even more proud of that than of coaching Duke and every man on that Olympic team loves and respects him. He has refused to post National Championship banners in years when any of his players who should have graduated didn't do so. He expects discipline on and off the court (including in the classroom) from his players. But yeah, he has "no class"
