Government shutdown - flights?

Nothin surprising in the rumored list. Looks like they start at 4% drop in traffic Fri and work up to 10% mid next week.
I wasn’t in the least surprised to see all 3 of the NYC area airports listed. Guess they’ll hit MacArthur on Long Island and Westchester later in the week to complete things.

Of course both Chicago airports are on there. What a shock considering how much they love us... /s

United has already said that the flights canceled on their end will be regional or non hub domestic. So hub to hub and international flights will take priority to keep on schedule. They will be doing rolling cancelations so hopefully people will have multiple days warning for the flights impacted by this. Communication on what flights are impacted will be available on the app, on their website, and they will be emailing customers.

In addition United WILL be offering refunds to any customer impacted by these cancelations OR, if you simply no longer want to travel and cancel, they will refund no matter the ticket type.

Do we know how Disney is going to handle this if someone's flights are cancelled? We already paid for rooms, tickets, and lightning lanes.

Unfortunately, our flights to MCO next week are JetBlue at 8:30pm and the flights home are SW. If we can't get down there (because the JetBlue flights are canceled), but the SW flights are not canceled, I don't think SW is going to be very sympathetic.

Also, there are about 7 flights out to home each day, not including flights with a stop.

So hopefully we'd get out on one of them Friday!
Giving me April 2022 flashbacks. Don’t drop bags until you know for sure they’re flying.

We fly 11/21. If only it wouldn’t take us 1.5 days (20+ hr drive with 3 kids). But I suppose that would be the alternative.

How exactly do you see the bolded working? You really never know "for sure" if you're flying until you take off. The chances are extremely high when you push back from the gate, but not 100%. They're slightly lower when boarding starts. Any time before that and a flight can get cancelled. So, how do you not drop bags until you know "for sure"?

No. If Disney releases a waiver to their normal policies it will be all over the blogs and Dis quick. So far, they have not.

What's the cancellation policy? Unless there's something written where they'll refund you if you have to cancel, they don't have to give you anything. Being Disney, I think there's a good chance they will, but wouldn't assume anything.

Can't you change SW for credit if necessary?

DD and I leave on Saturday 11/8; she returns Tuesday, 11/11, I return Friday 11/14. BGR-LGA-MCO. Bangor is not on the list, but LaGuardia and Orlando are. I am hoping that out flights are sold-out full so Delta doesn't choose to cancel them. Doesn't it make more sense for them to cancel "emptier" flights, so there are fewer people to reschedule?

I have a flight tomorrow morning out of LAX. I know the directive starts tomorrow, but have any airlines actually announced the flights that have been cancelled? So far, my flight is still showing as scheduled, but I'm worried they haven't even started cancelling flights yet and will wait until the last minute...

But most flights are sold out.

This is why travel insurance is always a good idea. There's still might be enough time to go ahead and get it. Make sure you read your policy extremely carefully though.

I don't think Disney is going to change policies for this. There have been plenty of canceled flights and flight delays over the years and unless a national emergency is hitting Orlando like a hurricane, they tend to stick to the rules pretty firmly.

I just checked Amtrak fares for our travel dates (Dec 1 to Dec 10) and it's crazy-expensive, especially with a roomette. And for a 24-hour train ride, coach is out of the question unless it's the apocalypse and there's no other choice. But a WDW vacation is hardly the apocalypse.

If this is looking impossible, we will cancel the trip. Not happy about that but I'm also not willing to deal with the hell of having my flight changed several times, especially since my outbound flight is the last one of the day.

Looked on Southwest today as we are flying to Vegas on Monday. They already are offering change flights for free to get ahead of it. We changed to go on Sunday night with knowing that if its cancelled we still have a shot of something for Monday. I have already booked one way rentals home just in case we get stuck. We head for Disney in December and hope this foolish games are stopped by then. Stay strong my fellow DISer's. I hope all of you make it to the world and home without too much drama.

I debated canceling our trip but decided not to. We fly SWA to MCO on 11/21 out of New Orleans. I didn't feel like fighting with WDW about MVMCP tickets and I bought tickets through UT and don't feel like messing with them, either. We don't have school or work waiting when we get home, since it's a holiday. But I am not going to lie, I am dreading the airport situation on Wednesday before Thanksgiving already. It's just me and my kid, so thankfully my husband will be at home with the cats and the car to come get us when we finally get home. If our flights get canceled we will look at it as an adventure lol

Every time I receive an email from Delta, my heart sinks a bit thinking my flight has been cancelled for tomorrow morning... They've sent an email every hour so far.

Sympathies for all of you dealing with this uncertainty right now! We flew home last night and even then I was worried until we were wheels up! We didn’t have to deal with cancellations but we were delayed.

We decided to cancel our WDW trip in December due to this. It was a quick trip and any delays/cancellations would destroy it. We’re still going in January but will drive if necessary.

Just want to remind those who are traveling to be extra kind to TSA agents, they’re really beaten down right now and kindness goes a long way! We’re all in this together. 💜
