Government of Canada announces one-year ban for pleasure craft and cruise vessels

We actually just cancelled our land vacation to Alaska that was supposed to happen in July. We live near Seattle so it's a quick and cheap flight for us and would have been a first trip there. But they require testing and quarantine right now. So there went our quick trip.
They require a test within 72 hours of flying up, but no quarantine if it's negative. There is the option of testing once you land in Anchorage instead, but that costs $250 for non-residents and that situation does come with a quarantine while you wait for results. (For a while last summer, there was a backup in getting results, but most ppl I know who've done it get results back within 2 days.)

The testing requirements were more stringent several months ago (requiring multiple tests and quarantines), but it's been somewhat "relaxed" (I guess I'd say more streamlined). Anchorage is also relaxing some dining and entertainment restrictions. The Kenai Peninsula, where many tourists (and locals) go to fish and camp, has had a drop in cases (kids went back to in-person school several weeks ago). Overall, AK is also doing a relatively good job with vaccination (in terms of % of people who have received at least their first dose).

Key in Alaska will be when commercial fishing season starts. That was complicated last year.

I called DCL yesterday to cancel one trip ask about a possible extension past may 2022 for obb credits, and had a fairly obnoxious agent tell me they already been extended for us as a favour, and won’t go past May 2022. Considering cruises have been stopped for nearly a year, and the late spring summer haven’t been released, his argument was pretty irrational and condescending. Fortunately, he is the first I have dealt with who I got negative vibes from. I thanked him and ended my call.
Seriously, did he think he was doing you a favor by extending your canceled cruise? You should have told him you were doing his company and him(assuming he likes being employed) a favor by not canceling and getting a full refund.

This is not directed at you or anyone here. I am glad you thanked him and moved on.

I never make excuses for bad customer service. When I have called any Disney customer service numbers I will cut them a little slack. They have been getting yelled at by people for almost a year about things they have no control over. I have herd from people some of the thing that have been said to them. Vulgar language, name calling and probably worse. They can only take so much of it before they become numb to it. I would say this is not the norm for them and so far all of my interactions with them has been great.

Yes, very true. I think we have to leave room in our discussions with agents and cast members for them to provide us information we don't want to hear without it being something we consider bad customer service on their part.
