What is with all of the goths at DL? It was so bizzare to see all these gloomy looking adolescents, skulking around wearing all black, at the "Happiest Place on Earth"!
I was amazed at how many there were and that they seemed to travel in packs. Quite bizzare.
Anyone else notice this?

There is an event that DL holds every year called "Bats Day" where a large group of goths comes to the park. Maybe you just happened to go that day.

Nope. According to their website http://www.batsday.net/, Bats Day is in August.

Goths love The Nightmare Before Christmas. The decorated Haunted Mansion may be drawing them in!

I didn't notice many Goths over the weekend, but there sure were a lot of ravers (they were there in droves the same weekend last year). You can recognize them by the colorful necklaces and bracelets.

You can be gloomy and still love Disney. Goth these days, anyway, has become more a fashion statement than a real frame of mind. It's not the same goth that we had back in the 80s (of course, kids would probably disagree with me :)). I went through my goth phase back in the mid to late 90s and loved going to Disneyland. You can still like the happy even if you are walking around with your hand stapled to your forehead.

Also, as someone else mentioned, the Haunted Mansion is a big draw this time of year given the NBC overlay.

I am a high school teacher and I agree with this! Some of the nicest kids dress like that. I was suprised and now when I see kids dressed like that I don't assume they are sulky, angry etc. They are pretty happy they just like the fashion statement they are making...and I also agree about TNBC HM decor.

They've "Goth'd" out a lot of Disney character. Tinker Bell. Just go in to any of your local Hot Topics. I couldn't believe how many Disney items they had in there with a touch of GOTH or EMO added!

I'm not so sure they goth'd those characters out so much as accepted the fact that people shopping in Hot Topic happen to like those particular characters. Some disney characters have always been extremely appealing to the gothlings -- Cheshire cat and well any character from 'Alice' and villians easily come to mind.

Okay, so that's what they were. They were all over the place on Saturday and you're not kidding about the bracelets. They had them ALL the way up their arms.

yep.....last weekend was the Raver weekend!

Last time I was in there I saw Cinderella and Snow White. :cool1:

I totally disagree with this i am an 8th grader and the kids who are goth are actually gothic and deppressed and emo (emotional) anyways, peopple dress like that because of wats happening to them and stuff i am not goth but i know people who r and they have a tough life!

There is actually a whole website about this, started by DISers. It is called "freakthemouse.com" and it is for goths, peirced, and tattooed Disney fans....

Do you have a link to this website or is it spelled different?....I couldn't find it!

IMO the Goths are the least of my worries! They are making a fashion statement, but I've never heard them being loud, profane, pushy or negative in any way. There are other groups that look just perfect and fashionable that I can't say the same about... :guilty:

This is true not just at DL, but everywhere for me :teacher: YMMV!

There are going to be exceptions to most 'rules'. But the majority of folks dressing up all goth-ique are making a fashion statement. Also emo != goth. They are both two different and distinct groups of folks. These days the lines seem to be getting blurred, though. I still have friends into the goth culture and such and trust me, goths are some of the happiest people out there and truly do enjoy life. They just enjoy it from a slightly more twisted perspective :)

I didn't realize your dressed as a whole goth becuase you were depressed. To me they seem pretty happy. I think the black is just a fashion thing.
