Last Friday the 27th we got to ride the new Star Tours. It was open on and off during the day.

This was a badly needed update to give an old ride new life. Preshow was also updated. While we did enjoy it and glad Disney updated it I still feel its pretty much the same ride experience. Simulators just don't have much wow factor to them for me but the update certainly is a plus!

Also got to ride the new Little Mermaid. Very enjoyable for young kids but our 12yr old was bored!

Thanks for the update! Did the updated ST have the same level of vection as the original ride? I hoped that improved graphics and seating would boost sensory response.

My only qualm about the new ST is that the "3D" aspect was really missing for me, with the exception of one scene where it was OBVIOUS. Other than that, the picture quality is stunning and the scenes are a blast, so I give it a big thumbs up :thumbsup2

I would say the video is much better quality. HD vs. the old TV quality. CGI is impressive. As already noted, the 3D does not add much of anything to the experience. Motion synchronizing is about the same as the old version which was also decent. For me the overall ride experience is about the same but with updated more current video and a far superior video quality.

Saw it on Sunday and Monday, absolutely loved it. This shouldn't be a spoiler but there were two different versions. Both adventures were unique and awesome. We could not decide which adventure was better, both were good.

Little 3-D effects, but they were good also. Both rides everyone was laughing and clapping. This will be a huge hit. Enjoy the grand opening.

FYI there are more than 2 different adventures (there are 54 unique combinations of potential adventure pieces) because the four major pieces of the adventure are randomly chosen separately from each other.

Minor Spoiler (highlight to view):2/3/3/3 choices for each part respectively End of Spoiler

I've ridden it 10 times and am still missing one of the adventure pieces. Lots of re-ride-ability.

Hey, I have a preview tonight, how bad were the lines for the preview?

When I did my preview on Sunday, the line went by so quickly and smoothly. I was able to get a FP after every 30 minutes and when I finished, I had to wait around 10 minutes to get my next FP.

The seating is the same as the old ride (at least one of the 4 speeders had new armrests - i.e. clean). I'd say that the motion is better synchronized to the video - I got to ride it 7 times during one of the AP 'winners' slots last week.

I rode this one on Friday too. I thought it was great, but if you thought the old one made you motion sick the 3D only adds to that effect.

Also got Little Mermaid on Thursday. It was ok. The kids liked it.

I was lucky enough to go on the 21st. I love how Allison Janney does the pre-show.

Ours was Saturday May 28th, but the ride was down for most of it. Only rode once. The 3D made me sick and gave me a headache. I don't have this problem for any other ride.

I am so worried about this ride. Did you take anything? I get motion sickness anyway...always have to take dramamine even to ride the carousel. Our first trip to Disneyland I skipped this ride cuz I thought I would get sick. Now dh says I have to ride but, like you I am afraid the 3d will get me even if the motion sickness doesn't. UGH!

Huff, thanks for the report. Looks like we will not be doing the Mermaid, no one seems interested.
