Got the H1N1 Vaccine for my DD's

I got it last week, and I have to say I have never been so happy to get a vaccine before. I have been very concerned about getting H1N1, and concerned about my baby being born without any protection against the disease. Now I feel so much better because not only am I covered, but since I got the shot while preggers, some of the antibodies have been transferred to the baby. I got it at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda MD, and they did not have many doses. I'm really lucky I had a Drs. appointment the day I did, because I probably would not have gotten it otherwise because they are already out of the vaccine.

We went to Disneyland at the beginning of October and while we were there, my sister convinced me to go with her to tour one of the DVC units at the Grand Californian. Upon hearing that I was a pediatrician, the castmember trying to sell us the points told me that the week before Disney had received doses of the H1N1 vaccine under armored guard. There had been a tent set up and all the employees who wanted it lined up and got the SHOT. I could not believe it. I am a healthcare worker, considered a high risk individual since I see sick kids all day, yet the employees at Disneyland got vaccinated before I did, which was 3 weeks later. It irks me that the healthy employees of DL got the hard to find shots that the really high risk pregnant women and children 6m-23m can only receive. We have only received 50 doses in our clinic and I really worry about all these kids that need the vaccination. I understand that Disney wants to keep its park running but those vaccines could have saved some lives. Okay, off my soapbox.

Here in Illinois when vaccines are available they are going school's and offering shots. From what has been reported, so far roughly half of the students in each school are participating. My Kids school had 164 out of 330 get shots. We have recently had two schools shut down for a week because of H1N1 outbreaks. Both schools had already been offered the shots and according to local media sources, over 100 students at each school were "alledgedly sick with H1N1".

Got it for my boys at a local county health dept sponsored clinic last Sunday. It was for 2-24 year olds only. They got the mist. Today, DH and I are getting it. We qualify because we live with my nephew who is just 2 months old. STill nothing around for general population

I agree, here in Massachusetts it has been very difficult to get. I am a school nurse and I have not been able to get myself or my children (1 with asthma) vaccinated. Meanwhile, both the district I work in and the one my children attend have rising #s of H1N1 cases, absences, etc. Very frustrating!

As for giving it in the schools, you can't give what you don't have! We have applied for a supply of vaccine and hope to have a clinic for the kids but we are still waiting...

I know better about what I want than they do. It's my choice, and my choice is to not get it. Simple as that. Who said that they know better than these professionals you speak of? No one here has. We're just stating our opinions. You have yours, and we each have our own.

Yes it is your choice..just be educated and informed about it. Prengant women are the highest risk for complications of the H1N1 flu. I am a nurse and if I was pregnant, I would get the vaccine in a heartbeat.
