Got Pixie Dust? A June 2009 PTR ~TR Link, Page 180

:ssst: I'm probably showing my age, but....

Do kids have to diagram sentences on the blackboard anymore?

Kathy

Some teachers still have students diagram sentences -- it's a good way for students to see how all the different parts of speech combine to make a sentence. I always liked diagramming sentences because I was able to draw super neat lines and then fill them in. Apparently I was OCD from an early age.

Looking foward to "other stuff"! :goodvibes

Coming right up!

Happy First Weekend of Spring! In Georgia Mother Nature did indeed get the memo about the start of warmer weather and has made sure that everything has started blooming.

In honor of Epcot's Flower and Garden Festival I tried my hand at pictures of our flowering trees in the yard.

So, what do we have planned in Epcot besides the rides? Lots of shopping, picture-taking, drinking, and eating. Oh, and not to be forgotten: Illuminations.

Shopping
While I only have a few things listed, I can promise you that we will be browsing through all of the World Showcase shops.
  • Mousegears: This is my favorite Disney merchandise store on property. I will be browsing while everyone else is riding Mission: Space.
  • Japanese Department Store: We didn't get Chelsea's pearl set into a necklace or a ring last year, so we are sworn to do that this time.
  • Morocco: Tiles! I want to buy some of those beautiful Moroccan tiles and then redo my kitchen around them. I am super excited about this project. Chelsea and I also plan on getting henna tattoos again. Those were so fun last year.
Picture-Taking
Now that I am in a Photopass Share, I plan on making sure we get lots of photos while we are at Epcot. I definitely want one in front of Spaceship Earth and some World Showcase photos. I am also hoping we run into Jasmine and Aladdin.

Drinking
  • Welsh Dragon: These are at the Rose and Crown in Great Britain. I don't remember what is in one, but they are a gorgeous green color.
  • Tangierine Daiquiris and Sultan Coladas: We found these in Morocco, and they were our favorite drinks last summer.
  • Grey Goose Slushy: Lemonade for grown-ups! A perennial favorite on the DIS boards, so I want to make sure I try one this summer.
Eating
There are so many things I want to eat at Epcot that the trick will be finding the time to consume all of it.
  • Rose and Crown: We are eating here Monday night. I will be getting the fish and chips to go with my Welsh Dragon.
  • Teppan Edo: Charles's favorite meal last year -- I am looking forward to that delicious shrimp again.
  • Cantina de San Angel: Churros! Also, this is one of those traditions for me -- I think we have eaten there everytime since my family started going.
  • Norway Bakery: After reading Lady Lallie's description of school bread, it went on the list.
  • Italy: It's time for us to try gelato. We have never had any and it sounds perfect for a hot summer day.
  • Tangierine Cafe: Baklava! Huge slabs of baklava!
  • Boulangerie Patisserie and Crepes: Need I say more?
  • Sunshine Seasons: Have you seen the pictures of the strawberry shortcake and key lime pie offered there? Heaven on a paper plate!
Illuminations
This is my number one nighttime entertainment goal for this summer. Last year it was Spectro and Wishes, and I did indeed get to see both of those. This year I am bound and determined to see Illuminations. Where is the best viewing spot for it?

I  Epcot (OK, I love them all  )

You MUST have a grey goose! So yummy!!

I love the idea of doing your kitchen around some of those beautiful tiles!

Be sure you get a photopass with the soarin' Mickey and gang!

Try the sticky toffee pudding at Rose and Crown and let me know how it is...it looks delish!

There is a wonderful deck in front of Italy (when we went there was a private party but we were allowed to hang out on the entrance portion) that has some benches along the side. Park your butt on the bench closest to the front, send hubby to buy drinks and when Illuminations begins, you will have a primo view when you turn around!

Your blooming trees are lovely. Iowa hasn't quite figured out that it is spring yet but at least the snow is gone. Perhaps the rain next week will start to green things up.

Sounds like a great Epccot plan! We love to go shoppin in the Japanese pavilion too. The kids like to buy candy! Can you tell me how expensive the pearl set are? We have seen them but I have never priced them. Do you all usually spend a couple of days at Epcot? I have found that as my kids have gotten older, we spend more time in that park.

RE: Turtle Talk....I hadn't planned on it -- it always seems geared towards smaller kids -- should we? What do you think, Heidi?

If you haven't been yet then I would try to catch a show. I think Connor would love it. Plus there always seem to be jokes that go over the kids heads right to the adults in the room.

I'll PM you my location.

Plans sound AWESOME! I just LOVE Epcot, it has quickly become our favorite park. Where do you buy the grey goose slushies? How much are the pearls and the settings? I know Lauren would love these.
For Illuminations our two favorite places to watch are in Italy and Morocco, both have had awesome views from there, ahhhhhhhhh I can just picture being by the lake now.:cloud9:
Lesley

Your flowering trees are so gorgeous! Flowering trees really say spring to me. :goodvibes We have a beautiful dogwood that I love to see blossoming.
Oh no, I want to try a slushie in Epcot too, but now I don't know which one. The grey goose and the grand marnier both sound yummy!

AWESOME pictures Jackie!!:thumbsup2 Our first day of spring brought snow showers yesterday!:scared1: LOVE your Epcot plans for shopping!:lovestruc I also have pick a pearl on my list! AND school bread!!!:cloud9: Our favorite spot to watch Illuminations is in front of Italy! LOVE gettinga margarita and watching that show!!!!:goodvibes

Hmmmm, let's see, just this past Thursday we watched from the pavilion in front of Italy, so far this is my favorite spot. I have heard that the actual front of the show is at the shops as you enter WS but it is always crazy crowded there.

Mouse gears is also my favorite shop on property!! I love those spring pictures, they are awesome!

Great list! I LOVE EPCOT so I'll be reading, rereading, and re-rereading this part of your TR. :rotfl:

I haven't seen Illuminations yet (:headache: ) so I can't tell you where a good viewing spot is. But I've heard that Germany, Italy, Mexico, and Lower UK are some great spots to see it.

Some other news though. I don't know if you've heard this, but according to my Unofficial Guide, Disney is planning to replace Illuminations later this year (sometime this fall) with something called Skydance. :scared1: I'm not positive it's true, but I just wanted to share this tidbit with you.

Okay so thank you for posting this drink list :yay: I had no idea these things existed... So what about your Gran Marnier slushy? Where does one get that? And the The Grey Goose, OMGoodness, :goodvibes -- sounds heavenly. I love frozen lemonade with a kick! Is that one in France, too? I have to make a "Drink Map"!

RE your location for Illuminations, just happens I read last night that the Rose and Crown is an ideal spot to see the show, anywhere along their patio area... I don't know the lay of the land well enough but that might be a good place to consider?

We didn't shop really at all the last time we were at Epcot, didn't even get into Japan or China at all.. so this time, most definitely! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the wonderful tips! :)

OMG, CP the flowering trees in your yard are GORGEOUS!!!! :goodvibes

What wonderful sign of spring, huh?

I love your list for Epcot. I mean, I love Epcot, and you've just hit the nail on the head here. MouseGears, shopping in Japan, henna tattoos.

Can I come? :lmao:

I LOVE the idea of using the tiles from Morocco in your kitchen, what a neat idea!

Your trees are gorgeous, I just looked out in our backyard and the jonquils decided to make their appearance during our trip but are still very pretty too!

I need a little more clarification on the Tangierine daiquiris.....do they come in flavors?
I'm up for trying the Grey Goose slushy as well! Just the ticket for a hot June evening..
:goodvibes

I do want a PP with the gang Soarin'!

I have heard such rave reviews of the Grey Goose -- I was disappointed last year that I never got one.

Thanks for the Italy spot! Ahhh, watching Illuminations with a drink in hand -- maybe a Bellini? :cloud9:

The sticky toffee pudding is the dessert I have picked out for Rose and Crown! I will let you know how it is!

Connor loves all the Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, other Japanese cartoon stuff in the Japanese store. When Chelsea did the pick-your-own pearl last year it was 14.95 and the CMs do this great little ceremony when they open the oyster. I am not sure how much the settings are -- we'll find out this year, I guess. We do have two Epcot days planned this year -- and did two days last year -- we have a lot of fun there.

If you haven't been yet then I would try to catch a show. I think Connor would love it. Plus there always seem to be jokes that go over the kids heads right to the adults in the room.

I'll PM you my location.

I'll add Turtle Talk to the list -- we love Crush! Thanks for the PM -- awesome location!

Plans sound AWESOME! I just LOVE Epcot, it has quickly become our favorite park. Where do you buy the grey goose slushies? How much are the pearls and the settings? I know Lauren would love these.

Lesley

Thanks! The Grey Geese ;) are in France at a kiosk. Picking the pearl was 14.95 -- not sure about the settings. Lauren would love it because the CM announces to everyone the size of the pearl and there is a little drum that is beaten also. Very cute.

I read that Morocco doesn't light up for Illuminations -- does that affect the view at all? I wouldn't think it really would.

I am so ready to be there!!!

Ooooh! Pretty!

We had snow here yesterday. :rolleyes2

Now I'm going back to read about Epcot....

Kathy

It blows my mind that other parts of the country are still getting snow! I will try to send some of our warm weather your way!

Thank you! I saw that you started your PTR!

There are just so many drinks I want to try in World Showcase! I better pack some aspirin.

A Grey Goose slushie is a must for me in Epcot.

Is it more on the sweet side or the tart side?

AWESOME pictures Jackie!!:thumbsup2 Our first day of spring brought snow showers yesterday!:scared1: LOVE your Epcot plans for shopping!:lovestruc I also have pick a pearl on my list! AND school bread!!!:cloud9: Our favorite spot to watch Illuminations is in front of Italy! LOVE gettinga margarita and watching that show!!!!:goodvibes

No more snow! :sad2:

Italy seems to be a really popular spot! I am so excited to finally see Illuminations this year -- I have been debating about whether I want to watch it on youtube beforehand or just be surprised.
