got our "free" companion voucher-not so good

My mom just rec'd her free voucher in the mail, a marketing promo from sovereign bank. I also opened two accounts and am waiting for my two vouchers.

The promo materials showed different prices for 2 tickets w/in different zones. Orlando would be $280 for the 2 tickets. Well, we logged in and plugged in our dates for next June-and any dates the week prior and later. No flights for the promo amount come up..."sorry there are no longer flights avail at the promotional amount...but you can still purchase one and get one free for $390".

I would have jumped at the $280 out of Boston...But, at $400/2 each flight has at least 1 stop/change and many had 2. We will only fly non stop with the kids.

Not exactly what I thought...I'll probably just watch for a good "ding".

I have NEVER found any of these "freebie" promos to be worth having... They generally are so restricted that as you discovered it winds up costing MORE using the voucher then just buying two tickets.

Can you tell me the airlines that you can use these with? Do you just put in a promo code to be able to check the available rates? We were thinking of doing this to make our airfare more affordable for trip in Feb (whole family of 14- ugh).

We just plug in our dates and several itineraries come up (some use two different airlines-one for each leg). You don't get to specify by airline.

Off the top of my head I saw American and Delta the most-no southwest - we like the shorter trip out of Providence.
