Got our first grocery delivery, reeked of cigarette smoke

Eh. That’s not good. I love cigars. But don’t go out smelling like one

That happened to me too with my last order. It's annoying, but I figure it's still better than going to the store myself.

I dunno. I don't use grocery delivery services. I want to have full control of who is touching my produce, precautions taken, and so on. We try to go grocery shopping only once every ten days. I know there are people who rely on grocery delivery out of necessity, but I just don;t want to chance it right now.

This happened to us last year with a pizza delivery. The pizza place uses Doordash for delivery. The pizza smelled so disgusting, we couldn't eat it. We called the pizza place and they sent out a new order and new driver. The new driver apologized on behalf of Doordash also.

We use Instacart all the time and this has never happened to us (knock on wood) - if you did use Instacart be prepared to be on hold for a significant amount of time - but they should take care of this and absolutely rate your driver accordingly and add comments.

That's us. We have face masks. We have hand sanitizer, we wash our hands, and we do our own grocery shopping. Besides, we tend to do our menu planning in the store based on what is on sale and what looks good.

I'm not a fan of the grocery delivery services either. Aside from instances like the OP experienced as well as the sanitation issue now, I found it to be a pain. It was time consuming to add my whole list to the Instacart app. I chose to select an acceptable substitution for each item, which also took time. And then when the shopper needed to substitute an item because it wasn't available, he sent me notifications through the app for each one to confirm was acceptable. At one point, I wasn't near my phone to confirm it so he called me. It was a little annoying because I had already taken the time to list my acceptable substitutions, so I didn't think that step was necessary. Afterwards, I found it was easier and faster to do it myself and be in control of everything.

I prefer to slowly build up the frustration of rising cost and the shelves being empty (that's not a virus problem here, the shelves have been empty since I moved back in 2015) as I walk around trying to find food rather than all at once have someone show up and charge me $20 to deliver the 3 out of 100 items the store had.

I think with Grocemania you do not need any slots:) They do grocery delivery within one hour!

That unfortunate. Definitely contact the company.

I absolutely abhor grocery stores. The lights, amount of things, carts, ugh, I think maybe it’s a sensory thing 🤷‍♀️ But I paid for a yearly Instacart subscription as soon as it became available in my area. I don’t think I’d been inside a grocery store in a year plus when I had to go to get paper goods a few week ago. I have the odd issue of getting something I didn’t order or something was not the right brand, but that has been rare. Overall, it’s been great and I don’t think I’ve ever had a major issue (Knock on wood).

I’d much rather hang by my phone around my order time to do substitutions than deal with the grocery store. But, I also eat our a lot and really only get groceries for basics not actual meal planning type things.

I’m not really worried about sanitation issues as I have no idea who has done what to the items on the shelf before I go in. Plus, Food isn’t really a vector for this pandemic. The other people are a much bigger risk in the store than the items.

That's a shame. I've had mixed success with Door Dash but good luck with Instacart. When I had knee surgery and was stuck in bed for a month it was a godsend for making sure the family had groceries and other necessary items. I even got dog food from Costco delivered to my front door that way. There's no way I could have done so otherwise.
I have asthma and have found going to the grocery stressful these days. As a result, I have experimented with different ways of getting groceries other than going into the store. I've liked Instacart best. I've been able to place an order the night before and chosen first available. I like the format the website has for giving instructions and backup options. So far I've gotten almost everything I need (except toilet paper) pretty early the next day and the shoppers have followed my instructions to knock and leave the groceries on the front stoop so I can safely bring everything in. I'm sensitive to smoke and nothing has smelled off.

I’ve had instacart deliver numerous times in the past 2 months and haven’t had a single issue. I love the fact we stay in contact. Some are better than others, I was able to see that a shopper substituted organic srouted whole wheat for my gluten free bread (dd has celiac) and was able to tell him that wouldn’t work.
