My FDW and I got the veil and top hat ears through a friend who was making a trip to WDW, and my Top Hat doesn't fit. My head has always been a fair bit bigger than average, and I don't think there is any way I am going to sqeeze into that top hat, it mostly sit's on top of my head right now. Any ideas? Sure someone else of large skulled stature like myself has run into this. I was contemplating buying a real top hat and moving the ears over to that, any better ideas?

(FYI, 5 and a half months till the wedding, so this doesn't have to be a rush job)

Thanks!

Hi, welcome to the DIS!

While reading your post, I thought the same thing that you mentioned, moving the ears to a real top hat. I remember seeing pics from a woman that did that. The bridal Minnie ears didn't fit her well, so she took them off and put them on her own white hat so it would be more comfortable.

You might also try just a plain black hat for you, either a baseball cap or fisherman type hat, move the black ears to that, and see if you can't find a very small top hat to attach in between the ears on your hat. I mean small as in like a wedding favor type size, sort of like the little hat that's on the Goofy ears headband. My other suggestion would be to do that with a headband, similar to the Goofy ears, but since you're a guy, I don't know how you'd feel about wearing a headband.

If you are able to figure something out that is more comfortable, please let us know what worked for you. I think LOTS of guys have this problem, and I know that when the time comes, my DH2B is going to be one of them! :earboy2:

I know of one lady who simply cut the back of the hat for her husband so that it expanded. If you only need a little bit of room this might work for you.

Thanks for the suggestions. I had thought about cutting the back, but we are planning on wearing these a fair bit. (Possibly reception, and we have 7 days at WDW + 4 days on the Wonder) I'm not going to spend ALL that time with them on, but I would be worried about the cut turning into a tear, etc.

I did some looking, first at online hat stores (Most were very pricey) and checked on ebay where I found this hat:

The seller has a bunch of them in different sizes and they look like a reasonable quality and price. They also sell a Caroller's hat which would really like the style of (like a black mad-hatter's hat), but the price is getting up a little too high for this project.

Rather than stapling the ears into the hat like the original version is, I'm thinking of attaching the ears to a slighly wider satin band then putting that on the hat on top, or in place of, the original band. That way I won't put any holes in the hat and I can still use it for all those events that one needs a quality tophat for.

I'll be sure to post some pictures of how it turns out, for other "fatheads" looking for a solution. (BTW I measured, my head comes in right about a size 8)
