Yippeeee, we got our docs for our land/sea on April 18. Here is my question. My DD12, and my DH's DD17 will be going with us. The one form in the booklet says that it must be completed and notorized if traveling without their parent or legal guardian. Must we have this done by their other parents? Both my DH and I have joint custody of the DD's with the other parent. My DD will have me and my stepDD will have her dad. Who has delt with this before and what have your experiences been.

Thanks

Sharon

Sharon,
I noticed that no one had answered your question and you were starting to get buried by more recent posts, so I am giving you a friendly bump. I can't answer your question, but I think I recall reading a post about it awhile ago. If you don't get an answer soon, do a search; you just might find the other post. I think if I was in that situation, I would call DCL direct and find out details. Good Luck!

You didn't mention if the children are using passports as their identification, but we recently got my daughter her own passport (she's 7), and both my husband and I had to appear in person and sign for her at the passport office. If one of us was not able to make it, then we would have had to have filled out a special form and had it signed by the parent not able to attend and notarized. I believe the reasoning is that both parents need to give consent in person for the passport issuance, otherwise in a custoday situation for example, one parent could take the child out of the country without the other parent's knowledge. If both children in your party are traveling with passports, I guess it would be assumed that both parents gave permission for the child to travel, but I'm not sure if Disney has a separate policy in addition to what the state department requires. I hope this helped and didn't confuse the issue any further.

I don't know the exact answer. I took my niece with us on a cruise once and her parents are divorced. I had to get a notarized letter with both of her parents' signatures on it to give me permission to take out of and into the country even though her mother had full custody. That was before 9/11.

Disney should be able to answer your question. But, as a precaution, I would get the letter anyway. It is a small price to pay to have peace of mind and it can't come back to bite you in the tush later.

I know that on our last disney cruise in may 03 it was not necessary. As a precaution, we took the joint custody order, but it was never even requested.

Well, I called both Disney Cruise and the Dept of State and here are the two answers that I got. Disney said that because they will be with one of their parents that there shouldn't be a problem. The main reason for this form is in case they need medical treatment, that only a parent can give the OK. Now the Dept of State said that we need to have a notorized letter(or the form). The reason that they state is because of child abductions. So, to be safe, we will have the other parent sign and notorize the form. Hope that this helps anyone else out there in our situation.
