No real mention of any new discounts--I had 4 coupons that were reminded me of the coupons from the Disney Club mailers. One was for Disney on Broadway (gift with purchase), a computer game coupon, and one for WDW and Disneyland. The coupon I got for WDW was the same offer I had on the website. On the statement there was a message about "ruling the kingdom" blah blah blah....starting May 1. I went to the address listed and it is a sweepstakes for Visa users--any and all Visa users, from what it looks like  still waiting to be impressed and so far, I'm not.

I spent $84 on my first statement. I'm used to one point per dollar. I was surprised to earn one reward point total for the Disney VISA. Now, I haven't seen a list for how many points equal what reward. Does anybody have a list?

Unless they run specials, Your one point is worth $1. You can use it to get a dollar off Disney merchandise, annual pass, etc.

I haven't been nearly impressed enough to get this card.

So what's the cut-off? $50 = 1 point, $100 = 2 points?

Spend $2,000 = 20 reward points which can be redeemed for two $10 reward certificates. 1% return, which is about normal for no-fee cards.

I thought it would probably be about the same reward as a Discover Card. I hadn't anticipated that one point would equal one dollar's worth of Disney stuff. :)

Just think...

All you need to spend is $2500 to get the minimum you can claim: $25. What does that buy you at WDW? Or maybe I should ask, how long will it take you to charge that amount, pay it off (you don't want you rewards to go into interest charges, do you?) and claim it?

But it gets better: Spend $75000 and you're safely capped at $750 in rewards for the year.

Just invest in the best rewards card around: the AMEX Blue. With your choice of rewards ranging from Skymiles awards to cash back, NO CAPS, you're really in the gravy

I am surprised at the number of people rejected for this card.
There is a long thread on the News and Rumors Board about it. Rejection does not seem to equal bad credit.

From perspective in Canada - this card is not offered to non-US residents.

If it were here are the other major cards it would compete with that are no fee cards:

TD GM Visa - 3% rewards on GM vehicles (capped starts at C$1500 per reward)

Citibank Driver's Edge - 2% reward on any vehicle purchase or lease

CIBC Dividend Card - 1% cash back reward on spend

etc.....

1% Disney Reward does not really stand out in the credit card world

Thanks

jaysue, the Disney Visa is just another monument to the level of capability of the management...

With the best rewards cards around all coming from AMEX, the reason why they'd break ties with them rather than create a Disney AMEX is mystifying...

We got a bill yesterday and we had a flyer with a code rate for FL residents. $74 for mods and $124 AK 5/26-8/23(excluding July4th). :D

AmEx doesn't do "vanity" cards that splits the merchant fees with the 2nd party who's logo is on the card.

It doesn't seem like this card is worth having. I've got the American Express (green) and recently the American Express Blue cards and their reward programs seem better than the one offered by this Disney Visa. I would like to carry the card just because it's Disney but I suppose that's not a good enough reason. ;)

What I find amusing is that I applied for the Disney Visa as soon as the application became available. For whatever reason, I was denied the card. Since then, I have received no less than 5 offers/applications via regular mail telling me I am "pre-approved" for the Disney Visa. No thanks.

I use my Chase i-card for everything and get my rewards in Web Certificates. I can use the Webbies for shopping almost everywhere on the web. I've also ordered GCs online from the Mall in my area, then take the GCs and go shopping at the stores there as well (including "buying" Disney Dollars). This works great for me.

So far, I haven't seen any offers on the Disney Visa that justify switching or carrying another card.

Just my .02....

I have two Amex Cards (Platinum and Starwood Preferred Platinum), both of which afford 1:1 ratio dollars spent v. points earned.

Everyday purchases (groceries, gas, Home Depot, stamps, etc.), afford double bonus points with these cards.

When I stay in a Starwood Property, Westin, Sheraton (Swan & Dolphin), W Hotels, Four Points, St. Regis and The Luxury Collection, I receive three points for every dollar spent.

I'm not seeing the motivation to apply for the Disney Visa.

Hehehe. Not to worry, those fees aren't going to be so high. They'll keep their images as earnings.

And to those who weren't approved:

Do not worry either
I bet my house and my wallet most who have the card applied to get the pin. The card is surely sitting somewhere gathering dust until -by act of some brain fart- an unusual, members-only attractive offer is posted.

Judging by the quality of consumers most members of the board are, they'll surely use their card with decent rewards and incentives most often anyway!

We've heard of people who were not approved by Bank One but were taken under the wing by teh best one in the market, AMEX Blue. Serves Disney well.

Many people do not know this, but when it comes to getting approved for a mortgage, or any other kind of big, secured loan, the lendor considers open lines of consumer credit to be a risk. If you have too many CC accounts, you may be denied that loan.

If you have any cc's you don't use regularly, write and "hard-close" the accounts. Very often, if you don't specify that you want the account hard-closed, the card issuer will just allow the account to go dormant. Dormant accounts still show up on your credit report as open lines of credit.

I got my statement today too and I was surprised that I had gotten 10 points (equals 10 Disney Dollars) when I had only charged $955. Is this the norm for most "Rewards" CCs? I had expected to only have 9 points so far.

I did apply to get the card with the "Charter Cardmember" and to get the pin. (BTW, has everyone gotten their pin? I have not yet.)
But I did use it to charge our room and air fare for our WDW trip this August. There is 0% interest for the first 6 months, and I figured that I would make out getting some Disney Dollars.

So far, I am $10 ahead. :) I won't use this card once the real interest rate checks in UNLESS I know that I can pay it off each month.

I am glad I am not the only one disappointed by the rewards. I haven't been impressed yet, I hope the real rewards start coming soon!
