Got my Maclaren! (and security question)

Alright, I am generally a very very very cheap person. I scoffed at the prospect of spending over 100 dollars for (basically) an upscale umbrella stroller. That all changed last night -- thanks to all the comments on this board, I got my husband to come with me to Babies R us to check one of these babies out. Once we pushed my 25 pound DD (Age 2) in the stroller, and saw that they worked to 55 pounds, we were hooked! Although it was pricey, I know that it will pay off in my upcoming Disney trip (and hopefully 2 or 3 more trips in the future!)


Only problem now, is that my husband is paranoid that it will get stolen at Disney! I have read lots of good suggestions (including bike locks) but my husband requested that I ask again...what do you do to ensure that your beautiful stroller doesn't go home with someone else?

We have taken a Peg Perego Pliko worth over £200 to WDW three times for 14 night trips. We left the diaper bag, minor purchases and clothes on it. Nothing was ever taken. We usually put the bag in the seat, pull the hood over it and cover it with the parasol too, this keeps the heat off a bit, as well as rain and makes it less likely for an opportunist to grab anything. We accidentally left Pal Mickey on there once or twice too. Remember, most people at WDW are just families having fun like us.

Ironically, Virgin Atlantic baggage handlers broke part of our stroller on our way to Florida last September. DH did a temporary repair on it and we claimed for a new on on the insurance when we got home.

If you are going in summer rainy months put a rain cover on it. I usually put one on before we leave then just clip it back with clothes pins. It looks so bulky that no one would want it. It is very personalized by that. Also I have a chain bike lock that once we get in the park in the morning I wrap around the back mechanism. the CM s can move it but no one can close it. I have brought my mac for 4 trips so far and no problem.

Are you allowed to use locks? I would think you can't becausethe CM's have to move the strollers around so much to make room.

We've taken our Mac 2x to Disney now and never had a problem. We do put something that will stand out and make it easy for us to recognize - as well as our name on it.

You can use locks as long as you don't lock the stroller TO anything and as long as the stroller is still able to be moved. You are right that CMs need to be able to move strollers to make room and keep a clear path for safety reasons.
Some people use a lock on 2 wheels. That way, the stroller can still be moved by tilting it so the "locked" wheels are off the ground and it is rolling on the unlocked wheels.
Other people have reported putting their lock on in a way that it prevents the stroller from being folded. That way, if someone does take it, they won't be able to fold it to put it on trams, buses or into a car.

bumping this because I am curious if anyone has done this more recently. Just bought a new mac quest and I am trying to figure out if I can lock it in some way. I think that one lock someone posted a link to is awesome! Just wondering if anyone has ever used it on a stroller and if so how.

In 2005 we took our Maclaren to WDW for 10 days and never had a problem. I did however have a plastic luggage tag on it (the kind you get from Disney travel) since I checked it at the gate and left in on for the whole trip. It also helped me find it when I left it in a sea of stollers.

I just wanted to say that we have been to WDW many, many times with our Mac twin and have never had any problems at all..even with the diaper bag and our Mickey spray fan thingy hanging out in there.

I've taken my Peg to WDW several times and never had a problem. However, I HATE my Peg and if it was stolen, I wouldn't be that upset by it. I will NOT take my Maclaren though b/c I love it dearly and don't want the airline messing it up. I'll take my Peg again next month and curse it each time I use it. LOL

I used stickers and tied a bright green LGMH to our stroller. You needed scissors to cut the string. I had also planned on sewing our name and number to the bottom of the stroller, so if someone did steal it I could accost everyone else with my stroller and make them flip it upside down.

We took our Mac Quest and it never dawned on me to try and lock it. Honestly Macs were a dime a dozen at WDW. I also saw far more expensive strollers like Bugaboos and Stokkes. I know it is possible and it would put a damper on your trip if it was stollen but I wouldn't bother.

I was the same way about my quest too!! I love it and didn't want it to "walk" off!! My DH drilled a small hole in the front inner tire rims to run a bike lock through. It was easy for us to do and it still allowed the CMs to move the stroller if they needed to by tipping it back. Hope that helps!!

We have always taken our Mac and never locked or anything. I know it happens (well atleast have heard stories on this board) but I cannot imagine anyone stealing our stroller. We leave most things in it, harmless if they went missing, and never a problem. I cannot imagine worrying about locking it up each time. That would be so many times per day spread across a week! Hopefullly there are honest people in the world like me.

and nothing happened to our Quest. We have the albee babye special model, and I never saw another one who looked like it, it is a very cute pink stroller, so I was worried every time we left it, because sometimes we would leave it for 2 or 3 hours at a time, but nothing happened to it.

As a pp mentioned the Macs are a dime a dozen at WDW. I would be much more concerned about the airline breaking it than someone actually stealing it. I would recommend that you put some type of tag on it just so it does not get mixed up with someone else's stroller.

We were just at WDW in September and bought a Mac triumph especially for the trip. I agree with the other posters, Macs are a dime a dozen there and there are plenty of other more expensive strollers.

We took our Quest on 2 trips to Disney and I agree that they are a dime a dozen... on our first trip I brought the bike lock and used it the first few hours wrapping it around the wheels so it couldn't be closed or used (but was movable by CM's). It got to be a major PITA, so I just left the bike lock in the hotel room the next day and the next.... no problems at all..... I also got a bright green luggage tag from Target to use when I gate-checked my stroller and left it on in Disney and made it easy to pinpoint my Quest from all the others

Our pattern (red and grey) also didn't seem to be very common. But if yours is just plain blue or black I would definitely recommend something bright to spot it in a crowd

we brought our combi twin savvy in october and had no issues at all. one thing I did was take a recommendation from someone here...I wrapped bright curling ribbon around the handle near my hands. If someone had accidently grabbed it, they would have felt the ribbon and known it wasn't there. bonus was that the handle was navy, and I picked bright lime green ribbon (of course! and it stood out so nicely...very easy to find my stroller in the sea.
