I got my DVC card yesterday. It used 8/97 as my member date. Where did that date come from? Anyone else out there with an odd date. I just bought points in February of this year...
The dates on our cards are wrong, too. They predate my first trip to WDW! So apparently I was a member long before I even heard of DVC. If only I had known -- all those wasted points!
If you by resale a master contract, you will have the date of the original contract. I you buy resale a add on contract, DVC will assign you a new contract number and a current date.
Now that you know why (based on answers above) simply let go and enjoy it!
We picked up a resale "charter membership" on one of our other timeshares. It is funny watching expressions from check-in staff, sales folks and others when they look at the date on our account. We've picked up a bit of "red carpet" treatment for having a membership dating back to the first year's sales.
I really don't know if any of the Disney staff look at the membership date -- but you can still relax, smile and pretend you've owned this luxury for (yawn) years.

If you think that's confusing, my wife and I have different dates on our cards for the same resale contract! The only thing I can figure out is that maybe the husband purchased under his name and added the wife's name some time later?
All I know is....they have the same expiration date!!
