I got my DVC card yesterday. It used 8/97 as my member date. Where did that date come from? Anyone else out there with an odd date. I just bought points in February of this year...

thoughts?:confused3

Judy, did you buy a resale? If so, I think the dates are the ones of the original owners. One of mine has a weird date, too.

Not sure, though, if you bought directly from Disney...

We bought resale last year and our date is right (09/06) so that can't be the only reason.

For resales cards often, but not always, have the original contract sales date on them.

The dates on our cards are wrong, too. They predate my first trip to WDW! So apparently I was a member long before I even heard of DVC. If only I had known -- all those wasted points! :rotfl:

ETA: We bought resale.

If you by resale a master contract, you will have the date of the original contract. I you buy resale a add on contract, DVC will assign you a new contract number and a current date.

Now that you know why (based on answers above) simply let go and enjoy it!

We picked up a resale "charter membership" on one of our other timeshares. It is funny watching expressions from check-in staff, sales folks and others when they look at the date on our account. We've picked up a bit of "red carpet" treatment for having a membership dating back to the first year's sales.

I really don't know if any of the Disney staff look at the membership date -- but you can still relax, smile and pretend you've owned this luxury for (yawn) years. ;)

That' not always the case either. I bought a 70 pt OKW resale in 2002 through TSS and it was dated back in the 90's.

I am not complaining,, just was confused. I was happy to be considered a member since 97. Yes, this was a resale. I was happy my card came so quickly.

If you think that's confusing, my wife and I have different dates on our cards for the same resale contract! The only thing I can figure out is that maybe the husband purchased under his name and added the wife's name some time later? :confused3

All I know is....they have the same expiration date!! ;)
