Got good deal on Poly renting points because of owner issue.

We rented points through DVC Rental Store for 5 nights at Poly for deluxe studio standard view. Well something happened with the owner and reservation was cancelled from Disney. We paid $2678, emailed the rental store about the cancellation and they said it was a rare issue and would fix it. There was no other openings for same room during our dates so they booked us the same room but a lake view but through Disney for us at no extra cost. Looking on the WDW site a deluxe studio lake view is $2000-$3000 more then the standard view we originally reserved. I’d say that’s pretty awesome to do that for us at no extra cost when technically it wasn’t their fault.

You can only judge your deal based on what you actually booked, you then got a free upgrade on top of it as the rental connector decided they would like not to go out of business. They needed to cover their behind or they risked a huge issue if your story got out that your stay was cancelled out from under you while using their services. Good to know this third party will step up if the owner screws up your reservation.

Glad you got a free upgrade. Having said, just so others realize; booking through Disney for dvc is always a good amount more than renting points so you're kind of comparing apples to oranges in this case. A more accurate way to get an idea on what you saved would be to see how much it would be to rent points for the lake view or price out disneys price for the standard view too and find the difference. Always awesome when you get an upgrade though! Enjoy!

Wonderful! I think it’s great that the rental company has this guarantee for renters so they are not left at the mercy of an owner.

One of the risks of renting is that you are dealing directly with an owner and not Disney. At least with the broker, you have this level of protection!!!

To take advantage of this make sure to request the top floor. The ground floor view is partially obstructed by the bungalows.

Prior to us becoming DVC members ourselves, we always rented through DVC Rental Store and not directly from an owner for this peace of mind. 99% of owners are legit and provide good service, but when your vacation is thousands of dollars, paying a bit extra to go via a broker was worth it to us. (And DVC Rental Store is the board sponsor, so you support them, too!)
