Got costume for MNSSHP & I look like a DORK!

You have to dress up!!

Last year I made a full on Clown Costume, and Looked so Dorky.. This year I made my version of the Queen of Hearts.. And I LOOK sooo DORKY.. But who cares!! I will admit going from your room threw the lobby, standing on the bus stop, etc. Now that is pretty embarassing, but once I was in the Magic Kingdom. I was fine..

Robin, so Old Navy had adult sizes in the Halloween T-shirts? I might go check that out.

MIL said she would hem the dress for me. I'm gonna see if she can shrink the collar down a tad, too.

Hubby is being adamant. I think he likes to draw attention to himself!

With our PSs so early we'll have to walk thru the MK in our costumes a couple hours before the party. I don't see why he won't change after dinner.

I'm just seeing us leaving OKW around 4:30 dressed up. Oh, my what have I got myself into?!? Hubby would have never have known if I hadn't opened my big mouth...

I haven't made it through this whole thread yet, but wanted to add my 2 cents to this post.

I went to the party last year, just me and my mom (im an adult) and we didn't dress up, only because I have a heat problem (as in I hate being too hot) and worried if I dressed up I would be over heated...anyway we saw LOTS of Adults dressed up, and we went earlier in the month....we had a PS at LTT for 5:30 and on our way to the MK we saw a ton of people dressed up getting on busses and getting off the boats...it was awesome!

I loved seeing all the costumes.

I say DRESS UP!! and do it at the resort like your hubby wants (whatever makes them happy keeps you happy...LOL..ok what I really say about my DH is whatever shuts him up keeps me happy...LOL)

now off to read the rest of the thread....

I think it is so much fun to dress up. I still dress for Halloween every other year or so, even just to take the kids around Trick-or-Treating. Just pretend you're a kid again--shouldn't be too hard, you'll be at WDW after all! Skip down Main Street, Alice, on your way to dinner, and have the time of your life!

It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, because, after all, not only do you not know them and will never see them again, but THEY will not be having nearly as much fun as YOU will! Besides, I'll bet you get some extra candy in your bag because you're "dressed!" ;)

Post a picture for us and maybe we can make some suggestions on any changes to your costume!

Shan,

Please dress up! :) WDW is one of the few places where you can dress up for Halloween like a kid and not have anyone care. :) You only live once. I think you'll regret it if you do not dress up!

:) I'm SURE you look fine. It's just not what you are used to seeing yourself in. :)

Have a great trip!
Sheri

OK. Went to fabric store and got a new trim for the collar. I'm hoping MIL can take off the lace and put this on instead. It is more tailored looking. I just can't deal with the frilly lace around my neck! So we'll see if she can change this and hem the length for me...

I also went to Old Navy, got me a $5 shirt with a witch hat, then walked over to Target and got hubby a $5 T-shirt that has some Zombie looking Dad on it.

Maybe I can at least talk hubby into wearing the shirts to dinner, then changing in our costumes for the party, but something tells me I doubt it.

It is Alice and hubby is Mad Hatter. I look like I should be working the fields in Amish country in it. I just don't know if I can do it. I just tried it on again and I look like an idiot. Stinks cause I've already put so much money into these outfits. I know hubby will wear his on Halloween night while taking the kids out. He enjoys dressing up.

I wonder....
I think I might go get us some Halloween T-shirts and plan on that instead. Then maybe pack a bag with our costumes and take it with us. How big are the lockers at MK? Anyone know? Then if we see alot of adults dressed up we can change...
Are all the lockers up front under the railroad station?
We have a PS at LTT at 5:15 so I'd hate to back track, but I don't recall any other lockers.

i'll be at the ltt same time as you on oct 3.....................not doing a costume but bought an orange tshirt that has the word COSTUME in black letters on the front of it.
if i see alice in wonderland, i will come over to you and gush on how beautiful you look.
i felt the same as you, going in a tshirt. taking the chicken way out.

Please don't worry about dressing at the resort and looking silly on the bus. We went middle of the month last year (just DH and me) and we dressed at the resort and took the bus to MK around 4:15 for a 5:00 PS. We were not the only adults on the bus in costume. This year will be our first LTT visit and from what I've heard here on the DIS, you will fit right in with the characters, servers, and other guests all decked out for the party. Kick back and have a blast!

I think you should wear your costume---you really will regret it if you don't. I saw adults in costumes last year that had obviously been chosen to look silly and they were having the best time. Even if you take it to the restaurant and change in the bathroom, I hope you wear it. If you cant' get it to look more like Alice, then just go as an Amish lady.

:rotfl:

Actually, I tried it on for hubby tonight and he told me I looked like I worked at Cracker Barrel.

OR... I might get alot of people asking me questions thinking I'm a CM that works in Frontierland.

I'm still laughing about the Cracker Barrel. He called his Mom and she is gonna try to make some changes to it for me. I think it will end up OK. I just have to find some courage.

I just don't know if I can bring myself to it. I had my costume made to go along with my hubby's and I got it today in the mail. I hate to throw money to the wind, but I look like such a dork in it. Now I'm thinking about finding Halloween T-shirts and possibly making hubby mad. He is game about dressing up, does every Halloween. I'm just not like that.
Our tickets are for the 3rd. I've been worried all along that not many adults will be dressed up that early in the month for this event, but now... What should I do? Eat the money I've spent and save the costume? Just go in Halloween T-shirts? I just don't know if I can go feeling so dorky and still have a good time. Thoughts? I get the feeling many on these boards dress up, but is this really a large percentage of adults that will that are there? It is kinda like a no win situation - go dressed and feel like a dork and possibly not many adults are dressed up OR wear Halloween T-shirts and then be disappointed with myself cause I see lots of adults dressed.
I need therapy.

Last year at MNSSHP, there was a family dressed as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

The husband was dressed as Snow White, full dress including the wig.

Now, that is the "gold standard". So how do you measure up to that? :)

I always go dressed. Even when we go Trick or Treating with DD, I alway dress up.

When she gets too old for it, I'm going to have to rent a kid.

We'll be there! I'll look for you. Don't worry about dressing up. That's half the fun!

I'm going as Aurora for the second year. Last year, DH surprised me by ordering the costume for me from the Disney Catalog. He got it a size too big, but we were leaving that week and there was no time to send it back. I have long, fuzzy brown hair. I in no way resembled Sleeping Beauty. In the restrooms a little girl from England shouted in delight when she saw me. Her mother and grandmother crowded around me. I tried to explain to the mother w/o ruining the image for the daughter that I was not a Princess. No luck. They dragged me out to meet the husband, who whipped out his video camera and kept exclaiming, "oh this is wonderful! I can't wait to show this to the family at home." I ended up signing her autograph book and posing for photos. I was afraid a CM would escort me out of the park. So you never know, you might look better than you think!

Funny, hubby told me if I won't wear the Alice costume he would and I could go as the Mad Hatter. Obviously my hubby will do anything.

Past Halloweens he went as a Waffle House waitress and then one year as a pregnant man.

If you're really worried about the bus, why don't you take a taxi to the TTC or one of the monorail hotels and skip the bus ride? Maybe you'd feel more comfortable with public transportation closer to the MK

Shan, PLEASE...Can I see a pic of your dress? I'm dying to see how it looks...we won't be at MNSSHP until the 17th...so we'll miss you. But I'd love to see how it looks.

I do hope you wear it and your DH dresses up w/ ya and have a magical time!!!

Can't post a pic. MIL took it and is making adjustments to it. I guess I should have taken a before and after pic.

I will post a pic of us at the party though.

It appears I'm not getting out of it.

Be sure to go around asking people how their meal was and if they'd like a Book-on-CD or a Harmonica.

I also say "Go For It". We went last year (me and my boyfriend - in our early 40's, my parents - in their 70's and my boyfriends father - in his 80's). My boyfriends and I were dressed as Woodie and Jessie the dads had on "This is my halloween costume" and my mom had on a orange turtle neck, a halloween vest and a black boa. We had a great time and loved dressing up. It really puts you in the mood for the party. We had been in the park all day (wearing shorts) and had our outfits in a backpack and changed in the restrooms around 5:00. I felt alittle funny but once you started walking around and noticing everyone else dressed up we fit right in.

A few nights before we were at the Boardwalk and there was a couple dressed as Sally and Jack Skelleton and they had a baby in a stroller dressed up also. It was great seeing them walking around the boardwall.

OK, I think I'm gonna have MIL shorten it a tad, maybe change the collar.
Hubby is pretty adamant about wearing his costume.
I'm still gonna go today and see about T-shirts just in case.
Any thoughts about what I should do with the early PS at LTT at 5:15? We'll have to leave OKW rather early. Would you just go ahead and go in costume and suck up the stares or would you change after dinner? Hubby doesn't want to change.

And about the theory that nobody will know me...
It will be interesting to see how many DISers come up to me - Oh, Alice!!! ;) Plus, I was planning on meeting a fellow DISer that night. I've already warned her I look like a dork in the costume. Really I can't describe it any better - DORK. I know I keep using that adjective, but it just fits.

What have I gotten myself into?!? I really feel rather Amish in it, I hope people realize I'm Alice!
 Plus, it is not very slimming. I think it added about twenty pounds on me.

If you won't post a picture of yourself in the costume, can you post a link to a site that sells the same costume so we can see it?
