I was booked for a 7 night stay club level with my family and when the free dining came avail.- I called and they told me that they were not offering any more free dining at club level and if I wanted the free dining I had to drop down to standard.
I was soooooo heartbroken because I have never stayed club level and I wanted the sunrise safari. Friends told me that I should not miss the club level- it is such a treat.
Will we still have a nice stay at standard level? It is my 21st anniversary and my sons high school graduation trip and I wanted it to be so special.
If anyone has any imput or tips please let me know.
( I have called on a few occations to see if anyone has cancelled for the club level and no go....)
Thanks!:confused3

I would not hessitate to choose the club level over the food. First of all, you can probably have a decent breakfast at the concierge lounge for "free". If this is a special trip than make it special by staying in a super nice room. The rest will fall into place

I agree, unless it is going to save you a bundle to change to free dining. What about doing a few nights club level without free dining and a few nights non club level with free dining??

I agree with the others who said pick the Club Level stay over free dinning. If they had offered Club Level and free dinning together you might not have been able to take advantage of the foods they offer in the lounge, because you would always be out at a various restaurant or counter service location trying to use all your dinning credits and etc.

I assume you were staying at the AKL? Not sure of your dates but Poly, Yacht Club & GF has openings Sept 7 thru 13. But you will not be able to do the sunrise safari as that is only offer to club level staying at the AKL. Now any other resorts staying club level can do a Wildlife excursion which is also nice.:happytv:
But as others have said club level is great & even getting the dining plan would work out fine. I would not give up Club level for FD :goodvibes

Considering that most WDW travellers stay at standard level its a safe bet that you'll be able to have a marvelous time away from Club level.

The free dining is worth at least $114 per night to you (3 adults, not sure if there are more in your group). Add that amount to the difference in room rate and you'll probably get sizable per night extra charge.

Finally, if your son is graduating high school and perhaps moving on to college wouldn't that extra cash be nice to have? You'll also be teaching him a lesson about managing money and making choices. Especially if he's going away to school, really necessary lessons.

As others have said if its the safari you want and you must be concierge, book a night there, do the safari, but spend the rest of your trip in a Savannah view room or something like that.

You can also upgrade to the Deluxe Dining plan at an extra cost of $32 per night per adult. That will give you some flexibility in dining (room service, Signature restaurants, etc.) to enhance your trip.

It doesn't sound like you were bumped from concierge. Free dining just wasn't available for concierge during your stay. Just because you have a room doesn't mean that free dining is available to be added to your res.

It sounds like you will still have a great stay at AKL.

At AKL, I wouldn't give up club level for free dining. AKL club level is great. Also, I think a stay at AKL isn't worth it unless you have a savannah view room. I wouldn't bother with a standard room just to get free dining. I would stay with club level.

If it's club level, rather than AKL specifically that you want, is club level available anywhere else with free dininig? If so, switch to another hotel. As another pp said, you can book a special AK tour that takes place during the day if you're a club level guest at any Disney resort.

I've done both the sunrise safari for AKL club level guests and the wildlife excursion, which is available to club level guests at any Disney resort.

The sunrise safari is very nice, but we really enjoyed the wildlife excursion, too. We were at GF RPC last August and booked the wildlife excursion. It was great. They do it with a small group in an excursion-style van. We had a terrific guide who told us alot of interesting things about the animals, the design of their habitats, etc. She specialized in the rhinos, so had lots of background details about how they manage them. It's not a good excursion for kids as they would get bored quickly. The two kids on our excursion got bored and the guide spent a lot of effort trying to keep them entertained. But for adults, it was great.

We were able to get up close to many of the animals, and we didn't have to get up at 6 a.m. like you do for the sunrise safari. There is no meal after the excursion, but we didn't care about that. There is a breakfast at AK after the sunrise safari, and it was nice. But, a breakfast buffet for me isn't all that exciting. I've had many memorable meals at WDW and the breakfast after the sunrise safari isn't one of them. That's not to say the food wasn't good. It was. It's just breakfast food is breakfast food. I'd rather spend the money for a great dinner at Jiko. Speaking of that, there is also a tour that goes backstage at AKL, with a special dinner at Jiko afterwards. That would be fun, I bet. I don't know what level, if any, you must be staying at in order to book that. Perhaps, someone else does.

Upshot, if you really want AKL club level, then don't worry about free dining. Stay club level, skip the free dining, enjoy the club level food offerings and don't look back.

If what you really care about is club level (as opposed to AKL club level), switch to another resort where it's available with free dining. As soon as possible, book the wildlife excursion and do that instead of sunrise safari.

Best wishes in getting it all worked out!

Since this is such a special trip...I would stick to Club Level and not worry about the money.

I went back and forth for our Xmas trip and 10 year Anniversary trip and decided that even though the price extremely high for the week of Christmas, I wanted to do it because I would probably regret it if I did not.

If you have your heart set on it then go for it. We all have times when we choose to spend more money for something that is important to us.

Hope you have a great time!:)

Agree with safetymom. As you were told I do not think club level is an option for FD. So calling to see if someone cancelled is a moot point. There is no such thing.
You just need to decide which you rather have -- FD at standard, or club level without free dining. But I am sure you can get club level as room only or as a package that includes dining. (Just not free dining.)

I was going to say the same thing. The term "bumped" means it was involuntary, like they called you and said your room was no longer available and you didn't have a choice.

Can you do a split stay so that you can still get the sunrise safari?

I would do AKL concierge over the Dining Plan! No contest!! :thumbsup2

Go with free DDP and use the money you saved to pay for the Wanyama Sunset Safari which I believe it open to all lodge guests on a space available basis. It's priced a bit higher if you aren't staying concierge level -- but that should be the only difference.

1) I did not read in your post that you were "bumped" from Club Floor.
2) Sounds like you still have it.
3) The post sounds liek you simply could not add Free Dining.
4) I do not see the problem.
