Just thought I would post some notes and observations.

Arrived Sunday the 11th and did Food and Wine. It was nice to have done once but would not bother again. I would have rather spent that same amount of money at a restaurant. Luckily we live in an area where we have access to almost all these cuisines any time we want. Very crowded that day too.

We stayed at Wilderness Lodge the first 3 days. Still love the resort. The Christmas decorations went up over night on, I believe, Monday. Looked great. Ate at Whispering Canyon Sunday night. The food was pretty good but really over priced. ~$32 per person, all you can eat but we only had one platter.

Did Keys to the Kingdom Monday morning and really enjoyed it. The Guide, Robert, seems to love his job and knew a lot about the history. We got a chance to walk through the new Fantasyland later in the day and walked into a small part of Be Our Guest but did not eat there. If you ever get a chance, go. It looks amazing.

(Just above a bus driver rumor) our waiter at Brown Derby on Thursday said that WDW has only been taking ADRs for the main dining room at Be Our Guest and they should be opening up the 2 others soon. No idea if it's true.

Spent all day at DHS on Tuesday doing Fantasmic! and Osbourne Lights. My wife (and me) was really impressed that Disney actually uses "Merry Christmas" and not any of the other PC nonsense phrases. They even had a nativity scene.

Wednesday was an off day and a move to Animal Kingdom Lodge with an excellent dinner at California Grill. We watched wishes from the observation deck between courses. It's much better than sitting inside and watching.

Thursday had us doing Sunrise Safari. It took about an hour to do the normal Safari route. We got some great photos of the lions. They were all out and sitting on the rocks. Doing this Safari requires a stay booked in the Club level of AKL. Nice but really not worth the extra cost unless you intend to do this Safari. I will say that having a quick breakfast in the lounge was very convenient before heading out for the day. We saw lots of animals around the savannah at the Lodge. The wild pigs follow the 3 o'clock food cart as it drives in to attract the animals closer to the Lodge.

This was our first time to see It's Tough to be a Bug and at the end my wife flew up out her seat. If you've seen it you know what I mean.

Friday was Epcot, MK, and the Christmas Party. The Party was worth the expense and we did nothing but the shows and fireworks from 7-10.

Observations

For us this trip could not have been any more perfect. We did all we wanted and saw some new things. The amount of time was enough. Although, I was wearing down by Friday.

I need better walking shoes. My Sketchers hiking shoes had worn out and have not found a good replacement yet.

The parks were in great shape, no complaints there. Same for the resorts.

Cast Members too, were top notch.

No tour groups. Lines were short to manageable. The usual suspects had long waits but not if you got there at rope drop.

The Touring Plans line app was very, very useful. I would guess wait time accuracy to about 10-20% which is enough. It lags on fast pass return times by about 5-10 minutes. It saved us from heading to attractions that could be done later. I really liked the menu listings for all locations. That saved us some time as well.

ADDED:
The wifi in the rooms at WL was OK. Slow but workable. At AKL it was almost completely useless in the room or in the public spaces. It was slow to connect, you could navigate a page or 2 and then stopped loading anything. It could be used very early, before 7am.
Questions, comments welcome.

Glad you had a great trip! I am here now...leaving tomorrow. Have had a great trip. Currently in line for be our guest. Have encountered great cast members the whole trip. We also did keys to the kingdom...loved It. And the Segway Tour at epcot...also loved It. No complaints other than the ones involving behavior of other guests!

We did not even see any crazy guests either. I expected some but was pleasantly surprised. I'd love to do the Segway Tour some day.

They, of course, can say Merry Christmas if they want and I have no problem with it. But, I object strongly to the idea that saying something like Happy Holidays is PC nonsense. Including others is a good thing. We don't have a national religion here.

Glad to see you had a great time and to know the decs went up in a hotel overnight. I would love to sneak out at night and watch it one time! One day we hope to do the tour at AK that you did-glad you enjoyed it!

OP - Great review. Thanks for the information.

I am pretty sure the OP was bringing it up due to all of the news and lawsuits that we all see right about now and was not trying to offend you or anyone else. Saying Merry Christmas does not exclude anyone. As a matter of fact it includes everyone into your traditions and is does not mean you cannot celebrate your way. Whether is is Happy Holidays or any other celebrated time, everyone should open minded. I do not celebrate Hanukkah, but am invited to my boss's house every year and we happily celebrate with their traditions and family. They are also welcome to spend time with my family celebrating our customs and it is really about spending time together.

No flames intended, just discussing.

Sounds like a wonderful trip!! Thanks for your report!

PS-Love Pittsburgh dad! :happytv:

What I object to is "Happy Holidays" etc. to the EXCLUSION of Merry Christmas.

not sure what that means. Happy Holidays obviously includes Christmas. It's redundant to say Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas.

fwiw, if i am talking to someone I know to be Christian, I will wish them Merry Christmas. If talking to someone I know to be Jewish, I will say happy hanukkah. If i'm not sure, I'll say happy holidays. this all seems like common sense to me but seems to be problematic for some people. :confused3

for a place like Disneyworld, I think it is perfectly appropriate to say Merry Christmas at a Christmas party or Christmas oriented event. Disney has also had other displays like a Menorah. I think that's all great.

But, again, there is nothing wrong with happy holidays. it is a friendly, inclusive phrase that can make many people feel good.

Not to mention that most people celebrate more than one holiday around this time of year, so using the plural is actually more accurate.

Totally agree and "Happy Holidays"!

Not interested in Hijacking thread, but Disney should say "Happy Holidays" instead of Merry Christmas.

And this is coming from a roman catholic.

Disney is visited by many many religions from all over the world, not just Christians.

Happy Holidays represents more then just Christmas and thus many more people then Christians.

Just my opinion

To get back on track, a couple of items.

We very much outspent our estimates for food. At least by 50% which is really the fault of not thinking it out in detail. What contributed to this was not making ADRs for dinner every day and our attempt to avoid fast food as an alternative. So we had to take what we could get. The Whispering Canyon meal was an example. Our decision to do the Fantasmic! Package required us to eat at the Brown Derby. Very expensive but an excellent lunch. That's all that was left.

Our next trip will always have a main meal (lunch or dinner) with an ADR so we can at least have a choice. The package has the $100 per person dining plan for 6 days. That should cover it pretty well.

Thanks for the trip report! We are going to be there this Saturday(can't wait:yay:)and also doing Keys to the Kingdom Tour on Monday-for the first time.
Did the tour last the 4 1/2-5 hours that is suggested? And are you given breaks during that time?
Thanks for any help :)

Our tour lasted a solid 5 hours. Lots of walking and several breaks. About half way we had lunch at Columbia Harbor House (included in the cost of the tour)

You get warned that the last 60-90 minutes allow no chance for bathroom breaks.

We got to ride Haunted Mansion and Jungle Cruise. Both attractions that our guide had worked previously.

You will love it.

thanks so much for your reply. We are so excited to take the tour!
