I got an e-mail from Jason The Timeshare Store yesterday. It was just a little update on new listings. After a couple of casual e-mails back and forth, I'm now on the waiting list for 50 VWL points.

There IS a cure for add-on-itis, isn't there? :confused3

Here is a follow up question that I can't seem to get a straight answer to. With cost of points plus closing costs the price per point is more than Disney? Why not wait list with Disney? In fact from what I understand there is no wait list other than BCV. And oh yes if you find the cure for add-onitis let me know because I have a severe case. I'm going down in a couple of weeks and plan to get in touch with my DVC guy to add-on.

The only cure for add-on-itis is more points....But be warned, IT'S ONLY TEMPORARY!!!

I bought a little time 25 point contract to start with. Before we closed on that, we bought 150 SSR points.....Before everything was finalized with that, I added on again & BWV. That was 9 months ago. Now, I'm really on the fence about adding on again.

Should I or shouldn't I???

Right now my cure for add-on-itis is NOT wanting to pay for more dues. However, I'm not sure how long that will last...

Good question, and just the kind of question my husband would want to research. We can find out the cost through Disney and compare it to the cost through TTS.

The only REAL cure is to Top out and not be allowed to buy more.

Until then your hopeless.

For BCV, it pays to buy through resale because points there are hard to get through DVC. For OKW, VB, and HH, it pays to buy resale because you can get points for a good bit less than what you'd pay through DVC.

By contrast, for VWL, BWV, and SSR, you're better off going through DVC. SSR has the incentive, of course. But for the other two, the resale going rate is high enough that your cost would be comparable to the cost through DVC. And points at VWL and BWV seem to be readily available.

Please also tell me if there is a cure. We bought 250 points a SSR before evening seeing the resort. Then before going to Disney we took advanatge of the previous SSR special which was a good deal. We bought another 240 points so that we would get 200 free developer points. We thought that this would be enough until several months ago when we bought 180 Vero beach points to be able to get a beach cottage. This has all happened within one year of buying our original points. The only cure is not having any available funds to buy more.

Here are some cures:
(1) Inadequate savings and/or high interest rates
(2) Necessary home repairs
(3) A job that makes it difficult to get away more than once a year
(4) A spouse that doesn't want to go more than once a year
(5) High prices (what looked good at $75 doesn't look quite as good at $92)
(6) Rumors of great new resort(s) to be announced any day now

Not all these apply to me, but most of them do. Even still, I find myself looking at resales!

The cure for me was... reality...

The reality that:
1. I can't afford more points right now
2. I don't really want more points at any of the existing resorts (I don't think)
3. I don't really need any more points (right now)

Here's my research (and depending on the resort, your mileage may vary).

50 VWL points direct from Disney at $92/point. Maintenance fee for the full year is $230.71. However, maintenance fee is pro-rated, so if we bought today it would be about $10.00 less overall. Advantages are that I would get the same use year as my current contract, and Disney pays closing costs. Total for 50 VWL points for the whole year (not counting the pro-rated maintenance) is $4,830.71. My guide reports they have about 2000 VWL points available right now.

Buying resale includes paying maintenance for the entire year ($230.71) plus a closing cost (on 50 points) of $322. At $80 per point it would be $4,552.71. At $84 a point it would be $4,752.71. At $85 per point it would be $4,801.71. And at $86 per point it would be $4,852.71. Of course, you never know what will or won't pass ROFR. Also, if you want to decline the title insurance, that saves $60.00 on the transaction. Disadvantages include multiple use years and waiting, waiting, waiting.

I found an unfortunate treatment that masks the pain. Don't stay in WDW for 2 years. The lust for points dies down. Also have a spouse that puts down WDW. Actually it will be 2 1/2 years between visits for me. Not counting summer stays at HH.

I can't wait until next week when I make my 11 month reservation!! Then I'll probably be checking TTS every day. The good thing is We have a bunch of banked points to blow and new rides to ride.

For me, I have a total of 250 points at VWL and BW. At times, I think it is not enough and ask myself should I add on? We love Disney, but right now grandkids are young.... who knows in 10 to 15 years if we will want to go as much as we do now.

So instead of adding on, which means I would have to pay maintenance fees on those additional points, I have decided to transfer in points from other members as needed. I try to stay with my home resort so I will have the benefit of the 11-month booking. That way, I get to go as often as I wish.

And even though I may pay $10 per pt., I am not having to pay the maintenance fee on that pt, (which can vary), so my take is that I making up for some of the cost. If those were my points, I would be also paying almost $5 a year on each.

It's definitely contagious as we got the bug last month while we were there. Last week we added on again at the BWV through Disney for another 100 which they had available. I told my DH the only we are buying again is if we sell our BCV points which we don't use as much. He agreed but now is trying to talk me into keeping them for at least another year and then deciding. I remember in 2000, four contracts ago, when we first purchased our initial 230 points and I thought that was all we'd ever want or need. Silly me!

I haven't found a cure yet! I started with 160, after four add-ons :) 480. I sure hope somebody finds one soon.

Started at BWV with 200 pts. in 2000. Have added three times since for a total of 450. We had no trouble getting 100pts. thru Disney last month. It took exactly ten days to get our use year and the 100 pts. even though we were told it might take months. We paid $92 pp vs. the $89pp we were looking at thru TTS, but with no closing costs and two weeks to complete, it was great. :cool1:
