I had a one night, AAA rate of $191.20 for a standard room on 7/1/07. I have a Loews card but only 1 stay to my credit.

When we checked in, I politely asked if there was a suite available and also asked what the charge would be for the upgrade. The reservationist went back to check and came back with the great news of a FREE upgrade to the suite! A queen bed in a separate bedroom and a sitting area with a pull-out couch. Perfect for our family of 4!

We liked the room and asked if we could stay another day, and also asked for the price to do so, since my original ressie was only for 1 night.

They gave me a second night for $191!

Loved the hotel, too. I reminded me of the Big Island 4-star hotels and everybody was super.

Great stay and a great place!

BTW, is this normal for the RP?

That is awesome! What a bula from the RPR! And seems you are hooked--added the extra night! We have done that on visits in the past. :goodvibes

Wow, you totally lucked out. They are usually VERY strict about occupancy in those suites because the limit is supposed to be 3 people due to fire code regulations. Glad you enjoyed it!

That's exactly what I thought. When did they change the regulations, I wonder?

Congrats to you!!:yay: I'm glad you had a great trip.

I am wondering though why people cant just be happy for someone without having to police everything? Oh well:confused3

Congrats....glad you scored it :thumbsup2

damo & Jodie are right tho....they are normally very strict about that.....they musta been in a pickle or something? :confused3 ...who cares....good for you!

Was this really called for? :confused3

I am glad that Claudia got a suite and that she enjoyed it. It is often a point of contention on these boards, however, that families of 4 are excluded from suite upgrades at both RPR and HRH due to fire code regulations. Either Claudia got very lucky (and I am happy that she did) or RPR occupancy restrictions/fire regulations changed. It would be nice to know if they loosened up the fire regulations as that would make MANY happy families of 4 who were denied suite upgrades due to having 2 adults, 2 children in their party. To say that I was unhappy for her and that I'm "policing" everything was unkind and unnecessary.

I sure hope the fire regulations are changed too. Certainly wasn't trying to put a damper on things but after many many years of seeing how strict the Loews hotels have been with their king suites, it is definitely unusual for them to actually volunteer to give a family of four a king suite.

We are merely universal fanatics who want everyone to have a great time and answer millions of questions like, "How many people fit in a king suite?". When, after answering that questions with a "Three" over and over and over, it is weird to see the hotel allow 4.

I didn't detect any negativity in our posts whatsoever! Just surprise.

Turn around, put your hands on the wall and spread 'em.::cop:

I think we got a king suite for 4 once but all other attempts were denied. That's funny too. 5 goes into 335 but 4 doesn't go into 650?
:teacher:

Just the facts, Ma'am!::cop:

the answer to the OP's question is no, this is not normal. sometimes there are flukes and the hotel guest is thrilled to receive something out of the normal procedures at the on site hotels. we all congratulate them warmly or make a comment of it was their lucky day.

the regular posters in the UO forums give out advice, answer questions and try to share their experiences from their stays at the on site hotels.

it would be very wrong not to state what the hotel polcies are. if posters didn't, and a newbie reads one post that was an exception, i'm sure the hotel guest that did not receive what they thought was possible, would be very upset. no one should be upset at the start of their vacation..

it is a good thing for the ones that stay on site, to be knowledgable of hotel basic procedures. the other posters were only pointing out what they are aware of in order to guide newbies.

i always think it is super kewl when the flukes happen and someone gets a special stay at the hotels. i have been fortunate to have them as other posters in the forums.

Woohoo! Good for you! Gotta love a free upgrade! :goodvibes I love being in a suite, the additional room is great. It's nice to be able to watch TV in a livingroom setting, rather than hanging out on the beds to watch TV.

That is great! WOOHOO!!! We stayed at HRH this year. I think I like RPR better. Although I am loving that walk to and from the HRH.

Guess it's the luck of the draw...always glad to hear of good fortune bestowed:thumbsup2 how cool that must've been.

'course, i was told we were lucky to get a room when checking in 3 days prior:rolleyes1 despite having a ressie for over 8 months.

Wow, we really DID get a great deal! Our family of four includes 2- 50ish adults, a 14 yr old and a 4 yr old. Do you think the 4 yr old made any difference?

Also, we were given room #1300, on the Lobby floor, just around the corner from the elevators. Does anybody know if the location or configuration of that particular suite allowed for 4 instead of 3? I was worried that the noise from the elevator traffic would be a problem but we didn't hear a sound in the king room and DS was not bothered by it on the sofa bed.

BTW, I'm not offended at all by the comments. Part of the reason I made the post to see if this was typical. We've done Disney over 40 times but this was only our second time at Universal.

Thanks, everybody!

We stayed in a club lev. king ste/poolview on our last trip two years ago, but only because the mgr. responded to a letter I'd written and guaranteed our next stay. We had 2 teen boys/parents w/mom having been in charge of ressies, etc. I was Platinum and never got upgrades. That bothered me, but after reading these boards, I realized they were iffy at RPR. But I had an experience similar to keishashadow the year before.....standing at the desk w/confirm # in hand and being told "We don't have a club res. for you, in fact we don't have any res. for you." while I looked over and smiled at my family waiting on the bench. I turned back and said "Don't make me tell them you don't have our res." They found us a room at the end of a loooong hallway by the staircase. It was ok, just not what I had worked on reserving for almost a year. So, I wrote the letter and got a really positive response from the mgr. I still didn't believe we had a suite for that last 7-night stay until we were shown to the room. And I didn't know until after that (from these boards) about the 3 person limit. I do know that when you travel with teens and all their stuff, any room can become a fire hazzard! ;)

No, I don't think the location made a difference as I believe all the suites are just around the corner from the elevator. For example, the suites on Club level are 7300 (pool view) and 7301 (garden view, right across the hall from 7300).

We have stayed RPR Club several times. One time we were talking to a set of Grandparents in the club lounge who were happy to finally be able to stay in a suite at RPR as they usually have their 2 grandchildren with them, and that year their grandkids didn't join them. They were never able to book a suite before because it is usually a limit of 3 in the room. They showed me pics of their grandkids, and the one hadn't started kindergarten yet, so I'm guessing the age of your 4 yo didn't factor into the equation either.

If I had to guess, I think if anything, what made the difference is that you tried to upgrade at check-in and did not try to book/guarantee the upgrade prior to arrival, as reservations tends to tow the line in this regard.

Or, perhaps they have actually changed the fire codes (which would make LOTS of families happy!). :goodvibes

In any event, glad you enjoyed it ... tell us, did you get one of the renovated rooms? Did the room look dark (burgandy/beige) or did you have flowered bedspreads?

Hi mac.

I'm confused ... I didn't think the RPR doesn't had Queen Suites or Deluxe rooms at all?

Our room must not have been renovated yet b/c it was dark burgandy.

Our Universal experience was good but factors other than the parks & hotel limited our positives.

Rain, rain, and more rain kept us more wet than Popeye's Barges. Did I mention that it rained?!?!?! I had foot surgery 7 weeks prior, so I was not a spry as usual on vacation and wet feet were problematic.

We also had not done enough research prior to our arrival and was not knowlegable about the water taxi schedules & the best/fastest way to and from the parks. My fault, I know. We used the much debated rickshaws on the path. A real blessing for me, especially after Dueling Dragons. The G's and turns really hurt! The Hulk did not give me any problems, though.

I think the rain prevented us from a normal day in the park. We found ourselves looking at the maps under cover and then going straight to the next ride or attraction. We never did have a time when we could just stroll and take in everything on along the way.

So..... other than the walking path and the water taxi, is there another way to the parks?

they don't. you are correct.

i was talking about hrh.
i thought that is where the OP had the queston for.

if i am wrong, sorry.
